Newcomer / Intro 2 basic questions here

Hi all, I have two basic questions to ask here:

1) Combat tutorials and guides

Is there a proper place to learn how to learn the basics of combat maneuvering and improve on this skill? I find the official E:D basic combat video a little too basic and I am struggling to get past the training session in which I need to destroy 2 federation ships. Any idea how I can get started in this?

2) Getting attacked while transporting goods during interstellar travel

I realized that overtime I load up stuff into my ship and transport it over to another star system I am bound to get hijacked by pirates who demand that I "empty my cargo holds" . This happens while my FSD is still turned on and I haven't disengaged yet and I am nearing the starport.

Now because I am horrible at 1) I usually can't defend myself properly and end up getting killed. Any ideas what I can do to address this?

Appreciate all the help and I hope to make my gaming experience in E:D a positive one!

1 yes Elite comes with a trainer in game.

2 submit to the interdiction (throttle all the way down) boost away until your frame shift recharges.

I fly a vulture so I just turn around and blast them to bits for interrupting me but that's not always possible. Just have fun!

1. You mean the COMBAT TRAINING: SKIRMISH scenario? If so, they are very fast. So, best is to put 4 pips in engine and keep your throttle in blue zone when turning. Once shield is down, use secondary fire control to fire missile (needs time to lock on) and finish him off. Later on when you're more experienced you can use brief moments of flight assist off to turn faster.

2. As 555inuyasha wrote; best to throttle to 0% (=submit) then keep boosting away until FSD has cooled down and you can engage FSD to get out of there.

Until your combat skills improve... ;-)

1. Try to evade interdiction in the first place (play the "keep the blue escape vector thingy in the centre" game!), then you can just stay in super-cruise and continue on (if you successfully evaded interdiction).

a) If NPC pirates interdict successfully, forget dropping cargo (they ignore anything you jettison); just 4 pips to engine, full throttle and keep hitting "Boost" when engine power bar allows. Then engage FSD and escape.

b) Avoid Anarchy systems, keep to safe Federation/Empire etc. systems until you can upgrade ship. I have had plenty of help from system security ships when being attacked (especially if the fight goes-on for a while, they can suddenly appear and save you!).

A couple of CMDR's from these forums produce a range of training videos on Youtube...

Commander ChaosWulff and also AdoredTV.. are 2 that come to mind and I would recco either for all new pilots to use as source material to supplement the official manuals and training material

Hi all,

Thanks for all your suggestions. Keeping the throttle at the blue zone turned out to be a very valuable tip and as such I was able to really complete all the combat training simulations fairly easily. This certainly helped to improve my confidence in the game. I was beginning to think whether I had waste USD60... :( but all is well now and I am totally enjoying the game. Even though some people complain the game takes "too long" too me I enjoy it because I am a big fan of astronomy to begin with and as such I appreciate the realism that E:D brings - star systems are huge in reality and I appreciate this fact in the game.
