2 million pre-orders?

So, I picked this up from the Reddit page, and wanted to ask about the following text :

"they've been able to push forward with Planet Coaster, concentrating everything they've learned in those ten years on the new sim, which Laws says is already successful, with two-million pre-orders already."

Is this right?
At 20GBP per pre-order (just working on the basic cost here) thats...that's...£40million!
or is it, 2million GPB, which is 100,000 pre-orders?

I think it's closer to the latter. The last number they released was that they've made about 1.5 million U.S. Dollars on alpha sales. I may be wrong, but I think it's just a miscommunication.

These could be two different things. Alpha sales and pre-orders are not, necessarily, counted together. Forbes reported that 2 million pre-orders had been made via Frontier, but it may have been a misinterpretation.

True you can pre-order and not have alpha.

As Stream states Frontier announced to the London Stock Exchange about 3 weeks ago they have customer receipts in excess of £1m GBP from pre-orders which depending on where you're located in the world has been converted to local currencies and reported as high as $2m (Kotaku Australia) due to various exchange rates against Pound Sterling.

I expect they picked this value up elsewhere rather than being told it by John Laws as sales figures tend to go out to shareholders in the first instance.

Any yet only 2000 watched the Live Stream the other day?

The live stream happens at a real inconvenient time. to watch live. Middle of the day in the USA. Middle of the work day and kids still in school.

Plus you have to consider a lot of people buy in then move on and wait and don't get involved in the community. This is the first game that I have pre-bought that I have joined fourms and watched stuff.

I'm in the UK and struggle to watch live because it's around the time I put my son to bed. I suspect a lot of other people will be in the same boat.

Of course, but if you've actually sold 2 million copies you would 100% state that and not say that you've earned $2 million in alpha sales. Elite:Dangerous hasn't even sold 2 million copies yet (even though it's getting close). Pretty sure it's a misinterpretation.

I have little doubt that you are right about this, I had just wondered if they had separated the figures. Forbes are usually on target, but it is likely they messed up.

It's 6am in NZ, so it meant I mend to get up early to watch it. I imagine a lot of people, all over the globe, wait until it's available to watch on demand.
