2 PC's, 1 Account?

I have Elite installed on my desktop but I am curious if I would be able to install it on my laptop WITHOUT buying a second copy.

Probably not but it's at least worth the question.

I doubt my laptop would run it very well, if at all, but it would be novel to recline in bed and cruise the galaxy.

You can certainly install it. I can't guarantee that you won't have verification issues, especially if you try running the same account on two pcs simultaneously.

Yes, this works. The first time you log in on a new PC you'll be asked to enter the verification code (check your e-mail) but it works.

Travel history & your control map are stored locally along with a couple of other things. So if you visit a new system on the second PC then go back to the first PC it won't update the visited stars filter fully. That's about it really.

OK well I guess I'll look into d/l'ing it soon during me data free time and see if an i3-5005U @2.0 GHz w/ 8GB RAM and Intel graphics will at least run it on low or medium settings.

If a Pi can do it, even for a second, this lappy can too.

Run on both computers concurrently with one account? No. That would require a second account.
Install on both, but log in with one at any given time? Sure, that works.

Like above. You may not run the same account concurrently from different PC/Laptops.

If you have more than one PC/Laptop you can run multiple commanders at once. I run 3 at any given time when I play. So many creative ways to play.

Ugh, intel graphics, don't expect much, if anything at all.

I can also say. If you have 2 computers. You can play it on one device at a time. But not both at the same time.

Let me add one thing. If you have a large Flash drive 64gb or more. You can move most of the downloaded files to your other computer. Then run the Elite installer which should be in your downloads. and it will cut your download to minutes, not hours or days. You know Drive:/User/username/Appdata/Frontier Developments. One has Game data the other will have your controller configs and such. So copy both.

You can install ED on both machines from only 1 account*.

You may have to "log out the machine" from the computer you have it originally installed on to be able to install it on a second machine (I can't remember) but you will definitely have to log out one machine in order to play on the other machine.

I had this exact situation for a while.

* This may depend on the version of the game you bought, I *think* some versions did not support multi-machines, this can be checked on you online account.

Now that would have been the smart thing to do.

Since I have a data cap I do most downloads, especially large ones, in the wee hours of the morning during the "Free Time" so I started the d/l this morning at 1am and cut it off at 6am-ish with plenty to go. Y'all know how those zippy d/l speeds are with Frontier. :D It got about 2/3 done in those 5 hours.

I don't have a flash drive larger than 16GB which may have sufficed but I decided to just run the balance of the files through HomeGroup network. It will yet take some time to finish but not much longer than a straight d/l.

I should have just done that in the first place.

It is good to know that I can at least have Elite on two machines though. Thanks to all who helped with that info.

Pretty sure you'll have to reverify every time you switch machines though.

I don't remember having to re-verify when using any of my accounts on my secondary PC.

I have only had to verify on installation or after major update / new issue of launcher.

...........

No and No - you just can't be running an account on one machine and also try to launch that same account on another machine. I have never had to "log out" or "log out machine" and I use accounts on both PCs a lot. (Pesky engineers with iron-man play.)
