2 people wanted! In news letter 36 :D

From bulletin board:

::News Alert!::
A recent "Wanted Dead or Alive" bulletin from the Galactic Security services noted that two Commanders continue to evade the System Authorities with accumulated bounties of over 100,000 credits each.

They were last seen flying a Faulcon deLacy Cobra Mk III and a Lakon Type 6, so if you encounter them, please exercise extreme caution and remember to keep your engine boost systems fully repaired.

Love it. Hehe. Who can it be? Bad pirates :D

I recon this is a taste of what to come in later builds :)

This is the kind of thing that I was really looking forward too with the new MP aspect. I would hope this info is available at spacestations and it be possible to be hired to hunt them down.

Maybe have warnings to locals that dangerous criminals are possibly in the area.

The only thing missing are the actual commander names! :D

I dont think it should be an issue no?

Actually if I was one of those 2 I would love for everyone to know! (plus within the Lore a "most wanted" list should not be too hard to explain no?)

Come at me bro! :D

I Totally agree Ste, that's awesome! would love to get news alerts for potential player bounties on the bulletin boards, with a current known location.

Providing you went for the bounty you could be preferentially instanced with them.

I think if bounty hunting isn't going to be about simple random and pot luck encounters, something like missions generated to help you track down the most lucrative targets is going to be needed in a game this size.

We could log on to the bulletin boards and take out a bounty job that is tasking you to bring so and so to justice (could be notorious NPC or high-bountied player). Your mission data would then be updated every now an then with hints and rumours of where your mark is said to have last been sighted. It would be then up to you to follow those leads and hunt down your target.

At the moment we have bounty hunting in its most primitive incarnation. I really hope it gets as much attention as other gamestyles - like trading, exploration for example - and isn't just a gimmick playstyle like it has been in other games. Bounty collecting isn't the same as bounty hunting, which is something other games failed to recognise. :)

Yes, it would be cool with a wanted list for pirates and so on. Who wouldnt want to be on the top of the list for pirates. You could make a list for traders and bounty hunters to. People love statistics and also to be on top of them :D

Example in the bulletin board for a mission.

"Extremly dangerous pirate wanted dead. Last seen in the LP 198-32 system.
The dreaded Commander ........... has harrased trade lines in Federation space.
We need you to take him down. Payment on completing the mission. 50.000 cr + bounties accumulated.

Commander........ was last reported seen at Freeport in the LP-198-32 system."

I think that's exactly what the game needs Erimus. Other games have added bounty systems that are just a gimmick. ED has the potential to allow self policing through the bounty system.

I think the game will require this form of system sooner rather than later. Look at the scum that has been flying around freeport lately.

You will always get the pilots who just want to grief, by adding a bounty system this allows some of them to channel that want to pvp and a way of deterring only true pirates from earning a living through hold ups.

Sometimes notoriety and a bounty can be an interesting way for pirates to show how infamous they are... until taken down by a good bounty hunter.

But this is whats so exciting about the possibilities.

Imagine some one has been killing innocent traders, picking on defenseless haulers. He has now racked up quite a bounty.

News spreads and warnings put in place at spacestations in the area, Warning - some guy in a eagle, a Commander Griefer, 14 from Eranin known to police for constant acts of piracy and murder, last know locations Azeban City and Freeport.

Police and Bounty hunters from the local area gather in masses in vipers, cobras, anacondas looking to bring his terrorising to an end.

That 1 bully picking on the innocent is now the defenseless against fleets of tooled up ships all on look out for him. Sooner or later 28 year old Commander Bob a brave bounty hunter from Aulin hunter hunts him down and puts him out of his misery.

The spacestation reports the news. Hes considered a local hero for a week as thankful hauler pilots now can breathe easy that their trade route is safe again.

If the players had their way though none of this would ever happen as Commander Griefer would be reported long ago and just banished to the far ends of some parallel universe and we would jut be admiring rainbows all day instead...

:)

I think this is a great idea. Potentially this could be construed as a leader board for the PvP brigade. The bounty gained is going to invite PvP action. A simple table showing infamous pirates bounties and the CMDR's current location with a sort to allow you to see only people within a certain distance. Then its up to you to go after them.

The only problem I see is when you would get updates as to the pirates location. Obvious point is the station but it would still be a nightmare trying to locate in a system. Maybe you could pay for information to be transmitted automatically. ie CMDR X is in system A, you select to get updates from A. If CMDR X moves from A to B you have the option to pay for updates from that system. The more you pay the more regular the updates are.

Most of the times pirates remain in the same system.

A realistic choice is to have pirated traders reporting the combo pirate/location/time to every station they dock.

This info is updated by every other trader that is victim or witness of piracy by the same commander: So in the station remains only the last position.

I'm against every kind of realtime alert (also about market prices): piracy would be too difficult.

Personally I still think the mission system should include human players occasionally - here for instance would be a great opportunity. NPC organisation puts out a reward for the termination of notorious PC criminal.

Righ now, I think the bounty-hunting system is silly and broken.
There's absolutely no way to get any idea were the target is. No rumors, no reports of last crimes, etc.
you could fly around for hours and never find the target.

Our ships already have the option of "report crimes against me", this needs to be used as an information source for bounty hunters.
Eg: "just assaulted a ship in the LP-zzz System, 15 minutes ago".

Also this newsletter has inspired me: I wonder how hard it would be to rack-up a 100k bounty?

Agreed.

I think I heard D.Braben mention in one of the earlier kickstarter vids that he hoped players would take on the roles that balance out crime and punishment - basically that bounty hunters would help police the galaxy. But without the mechanics to track down outlaws its going to be a pretty boring gamepath - more akin to farming random wanted NPCs.

It needs to attract players to it and get them immersed in how they go about their business as a bounty hunter.

The first Elite bounty hunter should be the one who dedicated his time and patience into his profession. Took the most difficult jobs, followed the clues, and ultimately took on the toughest of outlaws - be them real players or NPCs (for those who play solo). The one who earned the highest reputation increases by completing the hardest jobs.

It should not be the one who farmed Radiant Dawn the most out in extraction zones.

This is good news for the PvP in this game! I hope their names don't leak so nobody will preemptively put them on their ignore list.

It's probably not that hard. I'm pretty sure you could do it without firing a shot. From my experience, attacking and killing 3 ships only racks up 1100 credit bounty, but you get 550 bounty for being scanned with stolen goods. You can also take the courier type missions of take 5 tonnes of X to Y and just sell the goods. You will have seen what the fine is for non delivery, if you fail to pay the fine in time it gets converted to a bounty.

There's a prize for the first person to post screenshots proving that they have the death sentence in 12 systems and a bonus prize for anyone who can get the whole lot! (Obviously excluding systems where it isn't possible).
