2 quick questions about thargoid ships

1. Where is the best place to go to find Thargoid ships to scan to obtain ship flight data?
2. Do Thargoid scouts always attack you without provocation?
Thanks

1. Threat 5/6/7/8 Non-Human Signal Sources. Can be found in large numbers around the Pleiades, Witch Head and Coalsack. Not sure if you're asking about scanning the actual ships (with a xeno scanner) or just their wakes (with a wake scanner), but either way interceptors will be non-hostile as long as they're by themselves (no scouts) so you can scan them while they scan you and after a while they will jump away leaving a thargoid wake.
2. Yes.

I can’t answer your question directly but my xeno scanner only seems to let me know what type of thargoid I am scanning. I am not aware that I am collecting anything. As was said above if you just scan a lone Cyclops/Basilisk/Medusa or Hydra, then it will not attack you but will jump away - I sssume you could try scanning the wake. The scanner also identifies the different scouts and let’s me know the size of the swarm.

I am mostly out around the system called Maia. All the named systems - Atlas, Celano etc have thargoids.

I do refer to Inara for many different things but sometimes I like to see if any of the more experienced CMDRs can share some of their hands on knowledge and experience with me. I don't mean to be a pest. Sorry.
No need to apologize. You’re welcome with your question. 😀

Thargoids has places in the space where they are common. Pleiades or witch head as an example.

when you’re trying to get some tissue probes be prepared with limpets.

which data did you referring especially ?

Ship flight data

Maybe you can try in Delphi and HR 1185, where you'll find permanent Distress Call, and there you can scan Interceptors as much as you want, without scouts and
without jumping around with insecure results. Of course, relogging is necessary, not every time Interceptor(s) will appear.
Players use this Distress Calls to collect Tissue Samples, but obviously it's possible to collect some thargoid data.

Just now I tried at Distress Call, HR 1185 A1, and it works, was able to collect Thargoid Ship Signature, Ship systems data, Ship flight data. Sometimes place is empty,
but often there are 1 or 2 Interceptors. I used only xeno scanner, and they didn't attack.

But now there is another interesting question: as far as we know Ship Systems Data is not used by any engineer. Does it mean that soon it will be in use? I hope so.

Thanks for the tip.

I was able to quickly collect Thartgoid Ship Signatures by scanning the private data beacon of a damaged ship in a distress call site. I got one every time I scanned the damaged ship's private beacon but these ship flight data seem harder to obtain. I did notice if I dropped into a distress call site and there were 2 thargoid ships if I scanned the ship that approached me I always got a ship flight data. But instances of 2 thargoid ships at one site seems pretty rare. Again, thanks for the info.

That’s pretty intriguing, if your just using the Xeno scanner where about does this info show up?

After you finish scan with Xeno scanner, info about collected data (if any) will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. If you ask about info from my screenshot, this is
right panel, inventory, data, scroll down to Thargoid Data.
