200 ly from a possible supernova!

End of the proton-proton chain cycle with a supernova leading to a neutron star? I was going to say helium flash but I think thats only for main sequence stars.

Good find nonetheless.

Also worth noting that regular Novas are common enough that we may well find some in progress somewhere. Supernovae are rare enough that they may well be left as manually triggered events, or that the devs may decide won't happen during this game.

If any star was about to go supernova it would have been Eta Carinae. Given that it has the appearance of a normal type O star, there is likely nothing in the game remotely resembling a supernova about to happen.

I must admit this looked quite promising to start with though!

Here's one I found found during the Gammas (probably a solar flare as I did make it out!)

OMG Frontier modelled solar flares?!?
This game completes me.

Betelgeuse. Astronomers estimate it is (from our point of view) about to go bang anytime between right now and the next 200 years. It's 645 lightyears away so of course it may already have gone nova but the light hasn't reached us yet. When it does, it will appear to us as bright as the sun.
