Astronomy / Space 2015 March 20th Eclipse

I'm pig-sick that I couldn't get to the Faroes for this and I've known about it for a number of years.
I suppose 95% coverage partial eclipse will have to do.

I won't be seeing it either which is a shame. Every time one comes round I am never available for some reason.

Solar eclipse, Friday 20 March (<- CAUTION - brain fart contained within)

Next friday there will be solar eclipse at around 0935hrs GMT, as witnessed from the north of Scotland.

This begs, for me, two questions...

1) Will it be accurately depicted in the Elite Universe?

2) Who's coming? :D

Erm, hate to break it to you, but the Elite universe is 1000's of years into the future. Stuff that happens in the galaxy today or tomorrow, have already happened 1000 years ago in the game.

Too bad the total eclipse will be observable only at Faroe island and Svalbard archipelago. When you once see a total eclipse, partial eclipse are just... insipid.

If in the game you're to a thousand light years from the earth (approximately), then, you will see "the eclipse" (the alignment)

:p

Yeah, just seeing the silhouette of the Moon cut into the disc of the Sun raises the hairs on my neck! :)

Looking forward to it, hope the weather stays clear...

There are programs which can predict eclipses (e.g. EfeCalc - not tried it, just found it via a websearch) so we could try to find an approaching good one in the ED time frame and arrange a meeting. This does rather depend on whether the ED model is extrapolated from our own time frame. I already know (from reading, not personal experience) that the day's clock has shifted (as sunrise is not when we would expect it to be). It could end up as a damp squid (notice the IT Crowd reference, there?).
