Hardware & Technical 2080 Teased

As a rule of thumb, if Pascal boosts around 2GHz then you are utilising it properly ;-) And on 1V - nice. You can try to tweak the voltage curve in MSI Afterburner if you wish (CTRL+F) and flatten the voltage after ~2GHz 1V. It all depends on the card of course. Values over 2GHz usually are only good for e-peen measures, and they produce lots of heat increasing the chance of throttling.

I did my homework and adjusted the the voltage curve in Afterburner to get to the desired values. Yeah, again, I'm pretty happy with the results and with the decision to go for it!

Gamers Nexus. Always go with these guys. NOBODY tests hardware like them. Industry leading in a way. They will also have teardown, PCB review with detailed component breakdown.
In short: I'm not impressed so far :)

I agree, but we all kinda knew that the 2080 was just a 1080ti competitor with additional features (rtx/dlss).

Kind of disappointed in gamers nexus thougg, been waiting all day for their review of the 2080ti, they still haven't posted it :(

Interesting Review ... Basically a 2080 FE performs the same as a respectible AIB 1080Ti in games as they stand now. But costs more.

There may be benefits of having a 2080 if/when DLSS and RTX are adopted by game developers .....

And I so wanted to by a new GPU, but with the 2080 looking like a damp squib and the 2080Ti being so damn expensive .... Come on AMD you need to pull one out of the bag with your 7nm GPU later this year!!

I keep getting stuck on this point: 30% performance gain over a 1080Ti for a 70% Increase in Price ....
And for 2080 situation looks even more confusing. Little to no performance gain for massive price increase. Yes there is potential for DLSS and ray tracing, but...who knows. It could also just remain a potential, if developers won't pick it up. Industry showed reluctance for developing games that REQUIRE high end expensive hardware. And I don't see how it would change at the moment.

Not likely to change either.
Apart from a few games that has these features as extras they will not gain mainstream adoption until it reaches consoles.

And unless Nvidia gets something like the 2070 turing into the ps5 and the next Xbox console that's highly unlikely.
So major support in games for RTX type features won't be around before late 2019-2020.

Scan has a couple of 2080's in stock if anyone is interested:

The 2080 has received big performance improvement ...

... at the level of the price compared to the previous generation

:p

That was actually in relation to the 2080Ti review (apologies for not been clearer) , the 2080 (non-ti) is pretty much level pegging with the 1080 Ti, but the 2080 is still more expensive than a 1080Ti
