250cr fine results in entire settlement trying to kill me and then they impound my ship for 2.5mil?

This is my point, why was it in a restricted zone if its a legal mission, and the fact that the npc was excorting me out of the restricted zone and then went aggro even though i was complying.

The "procurement" section of the mission board is a euphemism, it's all theft, which, big surprise, typically illegal. I have never seen a transport job for data, so are you sure it was a legal mission?

Yea I double checked, because I usually don't take illegal missions in secured space if I can help it, very confusing to me as well what's more is I thought it was a fetch missions and was surprised when it directed me to a data port, but at the time I didn't think much of it because there is data you can legally download, I dunno must of been a bugged quest or labelled incorrectly I dunno I'll just steer clear of those ones and read em a bit more thoroughly to avoid the risks

I was going slow, apparently too slow for the npcs like, maybe add something actually helpful.
I did, you ignored the important part: "pay attention". Stealing data isn't legal, and being in a restricted zone isn't legal. If an NPC tells you to leave a restricted zone, you do so immediately. If you paid attention you'd have realized it was not a legal mission.

Personally I would have tried to hide while downloading, but if that wouldn't have worked I'd just have turned on my shields and danced around while downloading, and then gotten out of there..

There are generally three ways players respond to a situation like this (in order of popularity):
  1. Keep doing what you're doing, hoping for a different outcome
  2. Start a complaint thread on the forums
  3. Slow down and pay attention
The first two don't work.
There is 4th though :) which is 1st actually. Have proper shielding in the suit / ship and run around the pole :D
I managed many times to escape alarms without casualties. Just need all G5.
Also you can scan incomers for the bounties. You will wipe 1/3 of 1/2 of them and get +some money to pay your fees :D

That was my plan never got that far becase the npc spotted me and told me to leave i got the fine trying to do so then the whole settlement aggroed me.
Read it back to yourself;
A government hired you, an unaffiliated person they can deny having anything to do with, to download some data for them, from a settlement controlled by a different government.
Sometimes that data is alarmed, sometimes it's on a port in a high access level area, sometimes it's in a restricted area. Once in a blue moon it will be in a common area with no alarm but that happens so rarely it doesn't really matter.
Bottom line is you just signed up for espionage 👍😎
Your employers didn't spell that out and you didn't twig? Too bad...
If they catch you in a restricted area you get a warning and 5 seconds to leave. Then they start shooting. Walking slowly gets you shot.

I was walking normal speed just wasnt running, guess i just assume that a mission with illegal components attached would say so, much like npcs can be mission objectives and hostile toward you but the job giver wont tell you that, seems like an oversight from a development stand point i shouldnt have to interrogate my mission giver for infromation to make sure its safe to do the mission...

maybe you didnt read the OP it was a legal mission with no indication there were illegal components. the data may have been alarmed i dont know as i never got that far.

Most of us have learnt that it's a bad idea to walk into a restricted zone while an NPC is watching (at least if you aren't planning to outright kill them).

Personally I'd have terminated the NPC or tried to hide while downloading.. If the data would have been illegal to download, it would also have been a good idea to disable the alarms first.

Legal from the station's point of view does not equate to legal from the settlement's point of view. They were different factions with potentially different rules. Once you discovered the port was in a restricted area, it should have been obvious it was illegal. A newer, more cautious approach was needed at that point.

There are so many clumsy mechanics in the game like this, its pretty frustrating I agree. Its just like defending an installation for 20 minutes against a heist and one stray bullet and everyone turns against you. On the one hand the game wants you to invest all this time and play a role in the galaxy and on the other they hack together these dodge mechanics that show no care for that investment of time.

are you on about the sticky grenades:) i have many uninforunated times with them that they throw them will nilly and still managed to land the grenade right next to you. but i have learn that even running and the thing follows you. so now i have to learn and use the sheild defence on.Although i doubt that will work either.seems like every weapon firing at it and it doesn't do an effective job.

Doing a legal mission to retrieve data from a port, the port is in a restricted zone, not only are there way to many npcs patrolling said zone but they themselves do not even have the clearance level to be there yet have the audacity to tell me to leave when i have more clearance than them. Furthermore when i don't leave instantly and have to walk out of the zone. i get a measly 250cr fine, which then prompts the technician to sound the alarm, which then makes all the settlement red to me, they down me and send me to the nearest prison ship, because i was legally docked i get a 2.5 million impound on my ship, that seems ridiculous to me, there needs to be a reasonable response to this sort of thing like a guard arrests you and asks for the fine, I mean a ship getting a fine at a station doesn't immediately get attacked, all you need do is dock quickly and pay the fine, this is not how ground settlements work and its pretty silly.
If you shot the guy raising the alarm and murdered the rest of the settlement you wouldn't have had this problem.

Have you ever done the Horizons version of the mission where you are sent to scam a beacon? The beacon could be Public or Private, it could be out in the open or within a trespass zone.
Either scanning a Private beacon or sitting in a trespass zone will result in a bounty and shooting.
The same conditions apply to the Odyssey version. It's not that difficult to work out.

says you, but you are not the one in charge of developing the game. If you want the game to perform in certain way that you prefer, well, make your own game and then listen to all the whining and complaints about terrible your game turned out 🤣
On more serious note, instead of trying to bend the game to what you want it to be, try to learn the rules following which would allow to enjoy the game more. There's an excellent series of YT video by stealthboy (he still posts around here) to address all the issues you experience and following a few simple steps you can avoid the pitfalls you inadvertently encountered and actually achieve anything you want when dealing with ground content in this game.
That's a and Unhelpful Response for sure dude...Sheeez
