Hi folks!
Specs are per title; 16 GB DDR3-1866, MSI Gaming 980Ti with small additional OC. I wanted to provide a datapoint for Rift performance for those that may be interested.
With the game set to highest everything, except no AA, 1.0 supersampling (i.e. no change), motion blur off, and a 1280x768 Window 'mirrored' to my monitor (this is how SDK 1.3 likes to work), I've noticed the following:
- Subjective experience is completely smooth
- Measured performance shows mostly 90fps maintained. In general space it'll occasionally dip to 80-85 fps.. Perhaps near planets. In space stations (Visited two 'big' types), saw a few dips down to ~ 74-78 fps, but most of the time 84+, and a lot of 90 fps.
- Was flying in an Imperial Cutter which may or may not have more to render than other ships.
EDIT: Flying around planets (in/out of canyons, above mostly flat surfaces), the FPS was typically around 70-80 with this setup. I did see a couple of dips down to as low as 45 fps though. The rift still felt 'good' although some fast spins definitely made me realize I was wearing a VR headset
. 980Ti cannot max out CV1 on planets but runs quite well..
Summary: The Oculus 1.3 drivers are doing a great job in making the subjective experience better than the numbers; previously with DK1 or DK2 if you dropped even 1 fps below the desired framerate you'd have a very bad subjective experience.
