If the reverse is true some proper Dwarf Fortress death spirals where everyone is too upset to solve the problems making them upset might be possible.or whether a happy faction is easier to grow/defend...

Cat plagues in 3.3 CONFIRMED
I have no idea what the changes are, but any changes are always to the benefit of the CMDRs and groups that test and experiment, rather than wait for the guides to be written by others.
If you don't know what the changes are, why are you happy about the changes? :S
And I don't know where your comment about "those that wait for guides from others" came from, or was directed at, so maybe explain that too?
Sure! And I can probably answer both questions at the same time:
There are probably two different sides to BGS players: those who like that there is no manual to the BGS, and those who wish the rules were clear and documented. One of our allies, for instance, feels strongly that FDev should make the BGS rules clear, so everybody works off the same sheet and base strategy off of that. We, as a group, actually enjoy the process of figuring out how things work, run the tests, and apply our understanding of the results of those tests to the BGS.
Therefore, by definition, there is a bit of a lag before guides get written. First tests need to be formulated and completed. Then we need to understand what they say, and will start applying what we learnt in BGS operations. Eventually, when a practice is established, guides get written and information is shared with the community. But inevitably, if we've put in the work of testing, not all secrets may be shared with the community straight away. After all, those who put in the work to test should also be able to enjoy the fruits of that.
In the past, we figured out techniques based on testing that were highly effective. Some of those who didn't test anything, but were operating only off of guides we and others had published (based on yet earlier tests), have called us 'exploiters', just because they didn't put in the effort themselves, and apparently expected us to share all of our secrets.
So there it is. No idea what the changes are, and some may even be detrimental to us under current circumstances. But we'll enjoy the journey of figuring out how the changes work and how they can be applied to best advantage, as we get a lot of fun out of that. And eventually this knowledge will find its way to this BGS sub forum and updated guides, as always.
There is the other kind of BGS user who wants to see the BGS give us meaningful reasons to do stuff in game (I don't mean fight for territory). I want the BGS to make me care about what I do.
