3-5-7 remaining pack ideas

Noting up front, this initial post is a work in progress.

In looking at 2023 we likely have 3 more packs to come. That may be the end, and it may not be. We may get content into 2024 as well. I think it would be overly generous to say we'd get 4 packs next year, but I'm thinking of pack ideas for if there were 3 packs left, 5 packs left (2 in 2024) and 7 packs left (4 in 2024.)

What's your pack ideas? It can be your ideal pack, or something more realistic based on expectations. They don't have to be in particular release order; and line ups can change based off the number of packs.

Several rules, we've had one scenery pack this year, so remaining 2023 packs must be two Animal Packs and one Scenery Pack, and the 2024 packs must also be balanced; that is, one animal pack and one scenery pack, or two animal packs and two scenery packs.

Another rule is no extinct animals. you want to make 7 fully marine or fully bird packs? Go for it. You want macaws as habitat animals or the Black Rhino as an exhibit? Go for it (though the latter would be pretty weird).

Exhibit bird "types" can have up to 5 species, but it has to be specific family/subfamily. For example, you could include 5 different eagles in one pack, but you could not just have the pack represent "birds of prey". Owls and Falcons would get their own exhibit "type". Same for 5 types of Macaws, but could not include Lorikeets or Cockatoos with Macaws.

Point being whatever and however you want as long as they're not extinct and follow the Animal/Scenery Pack balance.

Also don't feel like you have to post everything all at once. Like I noted, this first post is a work in progress as I figure out how to do my lineup.

But to get started:

3 Pack lineup:

Aviaries:
Habitats: Shoebill Stork, Secretary Bird, Mute Swan, Northern Brown Kiwi
Exhibits: Eagles (Bald and Golden), Toucans (Toco and Keel Billed), Owls (Snowy and Eurasian Eagle Owl), Hornbills (Rhinoceros and Great Hornbill)

Islands: Tasmanian Devil, Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo, Aye Aye, Cuban Cockatoo; Exhibit Cockatoo (Sulpher Crested and Major Mitchell's - kind of a cheat since I'm including "Australia" as an Island)

Finale/Wrap up: Crested Porcupine, Wolverine, Spectacled Bear, Black Howler Monkey, Scarlet Ibis, Golden Lion Tamarin, Dromedary; Exhibit: Macaws (Scarlet, Hyacinth, Military Green and Blue and Yellow)

Anniversary: Standard Exhibit species of a Cobra and Chameleon - two because these should theoretically be less work than a habitat animal would be and covers the two types of remaining most requested standard exhibit animals.

5 pack lineup (while not necessarily these rosters, I do think 5 more packs is the most likely of these three setups)

Islands: Tasmanian Devil, Northern Brown Kiwi, Goodfellow's Tree Kanaroo, Aye Aye, Sulawesi Bear Cuscus, Cuban Crocodile, Cuban Hutia; Exhibit: Cocktoos (Sulpher Crested and Major Mitchell's)

Plains: Crested Porcupine, Secretary Bird, Dromedary, Sand Cat, Collard Peccary, Hamadryas Baboon, Saiga Antelope' Exhibit: Indian Cobra

Highlands: Wolverine, Spectacled Bear, Markhor, Big Horn Sheep; Exhibit: Bald and Golden)

Annivesary: Exhibit: Macaws (Scarlet, Hyacinth, Military Green and Blue and Yellow)

Petting Zoo: Nubian Goat, Shetland Pony, European Rabbit, Alpaca; Exhibit: Lorkeets (2 types, not sure on which)

Finale: Patagonian Mara, Wild Boar, Golden Lion Tamarin, Howler Monkey, Arctic Hare, Bat Eared Fox, Shoebill Stork; Exhibit: Toucans (Toco and Keel Billed)

I'm still working on the 7 pack idea. I have themes down but need to figure how to organize the animals.

Edited to add:
If I got two more packs, they would probably be domestics (Highland Cow, Valais Blacknose or Priangan Sheep, Kunekune, and Turkey with Mini Donkey, Dwarf Goat, and Alpaca as a walkthrough) and an avian expansion (Secretary Bird, Ground Hornbill, Blue Penguin, Scarlet Ibis, Rockhopper Penguin, Painted Stork, White Stork or great egret, Cockatoos, Kookaburra, and Raven in a walkthrough)

Other stuff that I wish could get in: a few antelopes (kudu/eland, nilgai, Arabian oryx, something small), sand cat, fishing cat, sloth bear, musk ox, De Brazza's guenon, another SA monkey, Wapiti (covers NE Asia and NA big deer), SA deer, Bighorn sheep, new world porcupine, tanuki, Aussie monitor, Tegu, Emerald Tree Boa, a little more from Europe (1-2 ungulates and small mammals), my personal really odd wishes (Red shanked douc and ribbon seal), spurred tortoise, and even more monkeys.

It's hard to do this prediction as there are many options they can go in terms of directions. I'll structure this if I was the one in charge, and we were getting 5 more dlc (which I can see realistically, as the next Planet game is likely to release Q3/4 2024, so the last PZ dlc and update would be in Q2 2024).

Drylands/Arid Animals Pack (Summer 2023)
  • Dromedary
  • African crested porcupine
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • Patagonian mara
  • Bighorn sheep
  • Blackbuck
  • Somali wild donkey
    • 3-4 hummingbird species
This pack is not strictly tied to "deserts" in the traditional sense but has a decent overlap into scrubland or even dry forest/scrub areas. Despite the Grasslands Animal Pack cannibalizing some good roster picks, I think it still works, as it gives 4 very highly requested animals (dromedary, porcupine, baboon and donkey) and 4 of the animals are "clones" requiring little effort but different enough to still please the community (blackbuck, dromedary, donkey and sheep). The biggest trouble is figuring out the WE exhibit animal, as I do suspect we are finished with traditional exhibit animals barring a dedicated dlc for them. You could do a number of bat species, but the Egyptian fruit bat already covers that niche a bit, so I settled on a variety of desert-dwelling hummingbird species (and you can also expand it to non-desert species too, why not. No one would care).

The Avian Pack (Fall 2023)
  • Eagle species (Aviary)
  • Owl species (Aviary)
  • Condor species (Aviary)
  • 4 macaw species (Aviary or WE)
  • 4 tropical dove/pigeon species (Aviary or WE)
  • 2 mynah species (Aviary or WE)
  • Shoebill (Habitat)
  • Gray-crowned crane (Habitat)
So, at 15 animals, this would be nearly double the largest amount we have ever gotten in a dlc. The rationale here is that it satisfies nearly everyone by adding birds, and multiple types of birds. People who don't care for the WE system (or the new 'Aviary' system, which are WEs without the walk-through part) get two new habitat birds to build for. Yes, 3 of the additions have multiple species added here (macaw, pigeons and mynahs) but they really won't require much work, as the model differences would be very minor, they have done it before with the butterflies, and frankly even if they reused the same vocals for all species I doubt many would notice or care. WE and Aviaries also give you the option to mix and match species, so all the macaws, doves and mynahs can mix and match with each other. I would add more, but this already seems like pushing it. I would also retroactively add the hummingbirds to the Aviary system as well. This is a mix between an animal pack and a scenery pack, as there will be a limited build them (less than 100 pieces and foliage). There really is no way to make this type of pack and have it conform to 1 of the 2 existing.

Island Animals Pack (Winter 2023)
  • Tasmanian devil
  • Matschie's tree kangaroo
  • Little blue penguin
  • Walrus
  • American flamingo
  • North Island brown kiwi
  • Great white pelican
    • 3-4 lorikeet species (WE or Aviary)
I can't see this as a scenery pack with the Tropical pack taking the SEA scenery theme. But it still works as an animal pack even with the fossa already in, as I would say it gives 4 more very highly requested species (devil, tree kangaroo, walrus and kiwi) a brand new rig (pelican) and two "clones" (flamingo and penguin) that I think enough people would still enjoy using.

Forest Animals Pack (Spring 2024)
  • Golden lion tamarin
  • Black howler monkey
  • South American coatimundi
  • Colobus monkey
  • Ocelot
  • Wolverine
  • American black bear
    • 3-4 hornbill species (WE or Aviary)
This pretty much takes care of the last highly remaining species that could be added.

As for the final dlc, I have no real clue. A petting zoo scenery pack dlc perhaps?

I wouldn't call American Black Bear highly requested! Spectacled Bear it is!
I would say it's got a medium faction of fans, but every Animals pack has to have a "clone" animal that the team doesn't need to spend much time on, and this would be it. Even less work than the spectacled bear. When I was referring to "highly requested" I meant the tamarin, howler, coati, wolverine and colobus. All of those require their own models and animations.

This is super hard thing to do. I've been trying to come up with three packs that includes most of my wanted animals but i always end up with very important (to me) critters left out. I'll try though...

Drylands Animal Pack

In contrast to grasslands. This pack could include animals from dry and arid regions of the world, and stretching the theming a bit, also animlas found in shrublands.

1. Dromedary camel (flagship) (AF, AS, AUS)
2. African crested porcupine (AF, EU)
3. Patagonian Mara (SA)
4. Secretary bird (AF)
5. Collared peccary (SA, CA, NA)
6. Black backed jackal (AF)
7. Hamadryas baboon (AF)
8. WE: a vulture

Mountain Pack

I feel like this would be better as scenery pack. We could get some building pieces inspired by Buthan, Nepal and the Himalayas.

1. Markhor (AS)
2. Spectacled bear (SA)
3. Wolverine (NA, EU, AS)
4. Oh boy several options here and just one spot: himalayan monal, pallas cat, sichuan takin, golden snub nosed monkey, golden pheasant, gelada baboon, ethiopian wolf... if i have to go with my favorite and personal choice it would be the monkey but i so much want the takin, the cat and the pheasant as well.
5. WE: an eagle or condor (andean please)

Last Pack

Woodlands Animal Pack

1. Black howler monkey or spider monkey
2. Ocelot
3. Coatimundi
4. Tasmanian devil
5. Tree kangaroo
6. Mantled guereza
7. Scarlet ibis or shoebill or kiwi
8. WE: macaws

Although i have a feeling that the last pack would be something larger that we are used too...

As for aniversary Animal i would say the rhea.

Sorry my precious blackbuck you didn't make it in in this scenario.

And also we are left with no toucans, no tamarins or squirrel monkeys and barely any other habitat bird. No crowned crane, no storks, no spoonbill, no swans, no ducks 🥲

That's why i like to think that 5 more packs is what we are in for in the future.

I'll come up with that list later.
