1. More time to test/de-bug game mechanics and optimise code
2. Better/cheaper hardware available for those looking to upgrade for ED
3. Oculus Rift CV1

3. more time to balance trading mechanics.
4. more time to implement and balance pvp.
5. more time to flesh out and balance the mission system.
6. more time to enlarge the mmo part to include more players in the same system.

The gamer in me is saying "NO! I want it NOW!", but the developer in me is saying " But if its delayed until 2015 it will allow for more testing and debugging."

Since I have been waiting for ….. I can’t even remember how many years…. Another few months won’t make the slightest difference to me. There are other games to keep me amused.

However, it is really important that the game is stable and (mostly) glitch free, otherwise the first impression a lot of people will get will be negative, and that can be fatal for a new MMO. There have been a number of great games that had bad launches, and they never recovered the community levels need to be successful.

Those are not very good reasons.

1) Well, this one kind of makes sense. If they still have bugs then they will have to do more testing and debugging and that takes time. And I'd rather have a fully working game than one release before it's ready.

2) If you follow that logic then it's even better if the game is released in 2016 or 2018 because the hardware will be even cheaper then. Hell, it would be best if the game is never released because then we never need to buy new hardware!

3) This one makes no sense at all. What does releasing the game have to do with the consumer version of the rift?

I haven't voted yet as I am wondering if FD can afford to wait to 2015. I think as soon as ED is released FD will start selling a lot more copies, and will end up with a lot more money for more long term support.

Did I explain that ok?
Brian :)

pure speculation

ofc, the more time the more stuff you can make
but as we don't know at all how far FD are behind the scenes, it makes not much sense to me to speculate on this

With regards to 2) Star Citizen has us covered :p

With regards to 3) a lot of people want to use the Rift from the very first day of play, but most are not developers and so a DK2 is going to be... troublesome. However, the CV1 will (hopefully) be completely plug and play and so the very day you launch you could be experiencing the game in a way that has made grown men cry (really).

I am not sure why you are asking, the game appears to be on track and is progressing really well, what other development are you wanting to delay for?

The idea is for the Devs to continue adding expansions after the game is released anyway, so adding extra features is no reason to hold back the initial release. The game can also be played on a very modest PC so holding back for hardware to drop in price is just daft?

so my vote is NO, don't delay unless there are real issue with the originally planned release, then I would say make sure they get the planned release right and delay as much as is needed. (but that is a different question)

The more the release is delayed, the less money FD will make this financial year and the less chance that FD will be able to deliver expansions. Christmas 2014 is an absolute must from a sales and marketing perspective due to the copies that will be sold during that period as presents. Further delays will mean that FD will lose the initiative on the current hype.

Most easy to find major defects are likely to be fixed by that point (station stability, CTD, obvious exploits etc.) in fact many already are, hence why we are in formal Beta. TBH much of what is being found now are niggles compared to Alpha or PB defects.

Any fixes can now be easily rolled out on a weekly or even daily basis.

If you wait for a "complete" 100% polished product you will be waiting for a long time.

Which is ironic, as one of the reasons for going down the Kickstarter route was to avoid pressure from a publisher to release on a particular date ;)

I'd be surprised if it launches this year. Not particularly bothered either way. I guess it depends on how advanced the internal builds are. But I look at things like weapon and ship balancing, functional markets, tweaking of income paths, yet-to-be-implemented features, bugs, networking, GFX optimisation.... and I'm struggling to imagine all of that getting done within a four month time-frame.

I needs to release when it's ready.

It mustn't be in a state like X:Reunion.

But it's already way better and more ready than that....

I don't any reason why we shouldn't get version 1.0 in 2014, there is plenty of time left to make that happen.

Things will move quickly now that we are in proper Beta. If it slips into 2015 so be it, but I think we should still be aiming for 2014.

I voted no because FDEV are very good at doing what theyre doing. And this is no democratic opinion based development. Why even bring up such a useless poll? Is OP a share holder or something?

You did explain that ok and I see the extra sales and publicity of an early release as a good thing and feel ED will be great enough for a this year release.

I don't know why the game has to wait for the occulus to be launched especially as it hasn't got a launch date and given that they don't seem to be in any hurry waiting on a niche product doesn't seem sensible.

Also we are playing what FD want us to test, we have no idea what the internal build is looking like and with 5 months before the end of the year it would be very surprising if it missed it now.

But it wouldn't be very smart to hold the release just because the consumer rift is not yet available. Especially not for those of us who don't want and don't care about the rift in the first place.

I voted yes because I literally would be "ok with a 2015 release", but that doesn't meant I wouldn't prefer it in 2014.:D

No, definitely should be released in 2014, I agree with the view that it is better to stick to the currently stated schedule as it has already been delayed once. Anyway FD are clearly on schedule and it is looking good for them to maintain that based on progress to date.
