3 Weeks WASTED

3 weeks. I SPENT 3 WEEKS of jumping from system, to system, to system, to system, to system, to system, to system, to system, to system, to system, to system, to system ONLY TO GET SCANNED AND GET A MISSION FAILED RIGHT AS IM GOING TO LAND AT THE STATION TO CASH IN THE MISSIONS FOR 187 MILLION CREDITS. I was literally less then 2 MINUTES from getting that 187 mil, but THIS ONE AI decided to scan me while I was in silent running, AND RUIN IT ALL.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS

Cue umpteen posts berating OP about getting scanned.

Sorry for you misfortune. I sympathise with you OP, I do. Its tough when that happens. Its happened to all of us prob at some point. Its a bitter pill to swallow. But a lesson has been learnt, you wont feel quite this way just yet. But it'll come and you'll laugh about it one day. Bad AI.

When random NPC does it I can understand that it fails but does the same apply when security services to it at stations?

To me it seems odd if security services could make us fail anything but a smuggling mission since their job is ONLY station security or if im committing a crime.

And ferrying a sightseing tourist should be completely ignored by security ships.

1. What ship are you flying? I hope it's small-medium because large ships aren't suitable for stealth missions.
2. Don't pick missions that you are likely to fail if you don't want to be disappointed.
3. I think most of the mission failed criteria for passenger missions are too punishing (getting scanned, hull damage...). They should just lower your payouts instead.

Not that this will be a help to you, but those of us who did the old Robigo runs prior to 2.0 dropping know the pain of getting scanned with a hold ful of stacked 'Do NOT Get Scanned Mission'. we learnt then how to conquer them pesky scanning NPC's

Either turn and face the scanner and fire one weapon at him to hit him and this stops the scan and he deploys weapons and hunts you instead of scanning you, you then boost boost boost and jump

2nd way (and my personal fav) was just to boost boost boost away to get beyond the 2.5 klick scanning range of the NPC's scanner......

Oh those where the days how i reminisce!

As Mentioned not much good to you now, but a lesson for the future. This game has a way of ruining you plans and you must expect the un-expected. We have all lost out in some way or other....LEARN from you mistake, so next time you will know what to do!

As Ridiculous as it may seem to you, it is the game mechanic, Scanning what NPC's do, it was not sent to scan you just to be ridiculous personally against you, its the game.

Sorry for your loss

I dont agree with number 3. And your solution will not change anything. People expect to win and its never their own fault if they dont. Period.

Honey traps can be frustrating, but if you win, you win big ;)

You will be wise to the trap next time, and will have practised with less at stake.

Sorry but I think the current implementation is kind of stupid. Maybe not for scans, because I can understand that a criminal doesn't like to be scanned. But in that case it would offer better gameplay if the criminal says "quick, get me out of here and bring me to another station (everyone knows how much we like redirections...)". Why do I continue to approach the station where he will undoubtedly get arrested? Also, why is it mission critical that a scientist doesn't get scanned? It could just lower his satisfaction instead, the mechanic is already present. Last but not least, when I accept a mission with "no hull damage" and get attacked by some pirates who specifically look for the person I am transporting he should be greateful that I defeated them instead of moaning about a few scratches (again, I would be fine with a lower payout, but instafail is a bit too much for someone I just saved from certain death).

This is the real Problem. Players have no other means to evade scans from NPCs besides shooting and getting out of range/ sight.

Flying a small ship while being allied and using silent running will reduce the likeliness of getting scanned AFAIK.

This game griefs you like anything and make you feel you wished you hadn't bothered starting the game in the first place. I'm not sure what it is with FD either. It feels as though they just want to punish you for spending money on their brainchild so you can't have fun. ;) :D

I’ve never used silent running to avoid scan and I've never been scanned. I’m using a DDT 5 Cutter instead. With 270 speed and 470 boost fully loaded, my precious smuggling beauty is able to outrun all attempts for security scans.

At some point there needs to be a 'you lose' mechanic.
3 weeks jumping and then losing at the last moment sucks but if he does it again he should have learned and won't get caught out.
As Waspo said earlier, Robigo was notorious for failing missions when you were starting out but if you persevere and learn then all will be good with the world.

Flying a small ship while being allied and using silent running will reduce the likeliness of getting scanned AFAIK.

The main issue I think is that it should be harder to even select a cold ship.

A better solution to stealth would be:

- 100% ship heat-Current heat value reduce any ships sensor range with the equivalent percentage.
- Scan time is increased as well by the same value

So a ship with 8km sensor range and a target with 2% heat would have -98% sensor range to lock on to said target and the scan timer would take 98% longer.
At 50% heat the locking range would be 4 kilometer.

Now it seems they can quite easily lock and scan us with impunity.

Well I guess you've learned that you shouldn't let yourself get scanned when you have 200 million credits worth of missions requiring you not to get scanned.

There are 100% safe ways of avoiding scans. Shooting NPCs interdicting you in deep space will do that and dropping into the station instance from the front side and maintaining 250m/s on your way to the slot will also prevent any police scan, without the need for silent running.
