3D plastic toys & figures

@chock - The shapeways stuff is stunning. All we need is a 3D modeller to make an image of a Sidewinder or Cobra. To be honest FD ought to be thinking about something like this for their shop.

'real' model, not the frontier stuff that you can get now.. something intricate enough to make shapeways worth it.

you might look at your local staples for m-cor paper printing, that happens in England first.

either way, 3d printing is often an end without a means, so you find a decent 3d printing service, talk them down on their price.. they arnt getting much business

.. and let us know what you find :p

this all does bring up an interesting point, i now have access to a proper metal lathe at the local maker space

not kidding.. I dont know if its beyond my skill, but those basic shapes on thingiverse can be metal fairly easily.. even wood.

I am clever enough to attempt them.

I would prefer models to assemble and paint. As Revell, Tamiya, Airfix, Heller, Italeri ... It would be too although that Frontier makes an agreement with a major brand

Seen the cobra shape plenty on screen but holding it in your hand gives you a whole new apretiation for how streamlined and robust a shape it realy is.

Working on building a whole fleet now: http://daftworks.co.uk/elite/index.php/Oolite_Paper_Models shame they are not all to scale. Tempted to make a space station for them out of a big box.

You could easily extrapolate the size of the largest ship and then 'scale down' all other models, work out their new sizes and print them accordingly. Might give you some difficult models to put together, but it's the easeist way to get them to scale in my eyes.

Have we decided if there are current game models available?

I want to attempt some 3d prints with the newer designs.
