3D Prints using this? Frontier, are you interested?

That's cool, but what I'd really like is a 3d mockup of the ships that we can walk around in. It doesn't have to be in the game, but an extra module so that we can explore and dream about the day when we do get to actually walk around our ships. To my knowledge, there are no schematic diagrams on what the ships are supposed to look like inside, what the layout of the modules are, and how they interrelate and are connected. The only thing we see is a limited view of the cockpit. I want to be able to go into the engine room and see the power plant operating. To see the plasma byproduct being shunted towards the main thrusters and the glow of the conduits. I want to see how electricity is generated. To see the actual shield mechanism integrate within the ship to create the bubble, and to inspect panels where all the wires and whatnots connect everything together.

I want to see this. Even if FD wouldn't make this, maybe one of our entrepreneuristic commanders could make and sell such a mockup so that we can walk around our ship, and even decorate it however we please. It would be good research for FD's development in the future regarding what the inside of the ships look like.

And oh yeah, add a ship's cat.

I don't just want a 3d painted ship. I want A SHIP! lol

I found an interesting (free) 3d design and rendering program called Blender. I'm not an artist so whatever I make would turn out horrendous. Anyone want to give it a go in designing a Sidewinder, complete with internals, that we can walk through and interact?

They don't paint them by hand they print them in full colour sandstone. They come out of the printer coloured but the surface finish and detail resolution is poor due to the material and process used. I am looking into getting proper model kits made which I would make available for sale and would be high quality larger scale self assembly but FD have severely dragged their feet with my licence application (sent it for approval last November) so I actually don't know whether they are even interested in making my dream a reality or not.

As for the full 3D ship yes I could do one as I am a 3D designer by trade but its a lot of time commitment and in the end ot would still only be my interpretation of the layouts etc. FD have already done the internal layouts I believe to get the module locations correct for weapon impacts etc and also the later walking around add on when it arrives.

Here's one I printed earlier - I was more interested in the whole full colour interiors, and a legitimate way of doing it, rather than the somewhat brute-force way I did this one:

That is a significant amount of work. Happy to do it - it's pretty much what I do for a living - but you'll have to pay me. :D
