Ships 3E Gimballed Pulse Lasers keep getting thermal overload

Hi folks,

I've outfitted my Python with three 3E Gimballed Pulse Lasers and two 2B Fixed Seeker Missile Racks. I have this problem with the Pulse Lasers that they keep getting thermal overload and they are useless for most of the fight. I have to rely on my seeker Missiles.

What do I do about this? Is there a better loadout for hardpoints? Is the Asp Explorer a better fighter than the Python? Do I need a grade A powerplant?

Thanks for the responses guys. So is the Python a good ship to perform assassination missions? Any advice on weapon arrangement and outfitting? I'm kind of fond of the Laser/Seeker Missile combination.

Missiles can be a bit annoying if your target has point defence. That said, my trading python runs a large seeker rack on the large hardpoint at the bottom, while on the top I've got a pair of long-range burst lasers on the large, and some efficient beams in the mediums with thermal vent. I keep two fire groups - one with just the LR bursts, and another with the beams that I toggle in when I'm closer range. If they don't have PD then I fling missiles at them just to speed things up.

Really though, it has the same size distro as the cutter and T10, so you can go absolutely nuts with high-draw weapons, or else just go with multicannons and enjoy being able to fight with a single pip to WEP.
