Just realised, after 15 odd years. we've finally seen ingame footage of Elite 4/D dogfites :eek::eek::eek:

I'm genuinely quite emotional.

So big ships are actually noticeably bigger than the fighters. I like how the fight was happening around the big cargo ships, rather than them directly mixing it up with their own moves.

Also "The players on the Anacondas will have to be careful not to hit the defenders". Would it be reading too much into it to say that these ships have more than one player on board?

Edit: Just need a yay/nay on planetary landings now and if yes, I'm calling this the gaming event of 2014...

Does this ship look familiar to anyone?
In the video David says it's a Viper MkII :

And we've seen this ship before .. "Ship-88" :

Therefore I propse, and maybe someone at Frontier would confirm this,
Ship-88 is a Viper Mk II

Nice! I haven't seen it yet, that gives me something new to look at. :)

Oh my God, it's like Star Wars meets Elite!!! Wow!!!!!

In Frontier, it was 'great, I'm under attack. Again'. Now, I reckon it's going to be 'I'm under attack... COOOOOL!!!!!

'No one role is a massive generator of cash...I don't want to be forced to asteroid mine or whatever it is'.
Just what I was talking about yesterday! :D Love the bit about carrying the Princess to Deus World and bringing some brandy along as well to trade. Or we could always have a bit of a pre-show party of our own with Her/His Highness... :D :D Yarrrh, I know - I be a dirty dog, me hearties! :D

Excite mode was engaged for me the day they said it might be a possibility that this game gets released.

I can confirm from this video that excite mode continues. :)

I would have liked to see a Cobra Mk III in this update, but I cannot fault the coolness of what we got! Very nice to see the bigger ships NOT engage in battle fast turns etc. that they had in FE2 and FFE.

It should certainly make for some diversity in encounters; they might not twist and turn all over the place but I'm guessing you wouldn't want to be hit by one of the turret guns, it's probably bigger than your ship :)

It reminds me of the golden age of space combat - X Wing, loads of colour, big ships with turrets, little fighters buzzing around, concussion missiles twisting and turning, big, slow torpedoes attacking the big ships, and EMP guns to knock out hyperdrives!

Ooh... do you think we can blast the turrets away, modular damage?

Me too. My biggest emotion was jealousy, not only does Elite 4 exist, but people are sitting in their office playing an all new Elite!!!

Also noticed they are piloting using XBOX controllers, I have my XBOX controller setup on the C64 emulator and enjoy flying the orginal Elite with it :)

Looks the same to me :)

Bloody good vid, and will hopefully put some of the more unsure individual's fears to rest about how its coming along. Couple of things i noticed...

1) Looks like they're using controllers, rather than mouse/kb/joystick. Maybe this is easiest for development or maybe it'll be included in the final game. Also, i don't own an xbox, but they look like xbox controllers to me :)
2) A minimum of 8 missle pylons on the ship being piloted at the start of the vid... nice!
3) Looks like the ships all have pulse lasers, but with varying firing rates. This could be how the variants of pulse lasers will work, a 5MW requiring more power and therefore slower firing rate than a 1MW. Or perhaps on the other hand, its down to the power/size of the ship in which they're fitted (larger ship = more power = faster firing rate)
4) As mentioned by Kipper, "people on the Anacondas". Could this mean multiple players on one ship, the AI crew you've hired for your ship, or simply a little artisic license on DB's behalf to mean the pilot (player) of the Anaconda firing at will with the assortment of weapons on board (as with ship turrets in FE2/FFE)
5) Looks like the larger vessels have shields, which is to be expected, but they appeared to vary in colour (starting with blue, then red). Perhaps this is a visual indication of their current strength. If they take a pounding from enemy attack they loose power and turn red to indicate imminent failure
6) Last but not least... a nice nod by DB to deusx - Deus World :D

They're definitely Xbox controllers. I wouldn't worry too much: space sims and some flight sims are playable with Xbox controllers; it's the landings that are the most awkward part. I'm sure it'll have full joystick support though. ;)

I'm glad all the ships have pulse lasers - I never did like the look of beam lasers. Pulse lasers with multiple fire rates is the way to go for me; it just looks better. :)

Going back to the 'player roles' thing, I hope you can team up with AI as escorts; if you can only do it with real flesh and blood people, that might be what pushes me into going full MP.

Me too. My biggest emotion was jealousy, not only does Elite 4 exist, but people are sitting in their office playing an all new Elite!!!

Best job in the world...

Hopefully there will be a quick key to turn off the flight computers during combat so you can perform strafing runs on large ships. Ideally I'd like a hotkey, pressing (or maybe holding) this key keeps the ship on the same trajectory, but still allows you to turn and fire.

Yup, I'd like to see that as well. I need at least a semblance of Newtonian flight tricks in th emix. :)
