3rd weapon slot for X-52 (and other) users

Hello there!

I like many others use the X-52 joystick, the controller consists of 3 main fire functions (4 counting 2 stage trigger) the primary, secondary and missile button with spring lock cover. most conflict games I can use all of these but with elite I am strictly stuck with just the 2 due to 2 functions per firegroup. so my button never gets used..at all.

I would like to put forward the suggestion of a third slot (there is a huge region above that is blank that could be ideal for it) this would allow ease of access for players with x-52. rather than us cycling through nearly 4 fire groups for missiles or counter measures, we could hotkey missiles or countermeasures to the 3rd weapon slot for an easier and slightly more immersive experience. as for keyboard (or other) players the third slot would just make things easier and slightly more fluid in combat or mining (collectors, prospector and mining laser all in same group)

Adding fire buttons has been suggested many times over the years but hasn't happened. Apparently weapons group selection then 2 fire buttons is here to stay for good. Maybe it is a balance issue with more than two sets of weapons firing all at once. In any case don't hold your breath on this one.

Why do utilities like KWS require fire buttons? Two weapon buttons I'm okay with, but not two buttons for KWS, FSD Interdictor, Discovery Scanner, and two weapons.
 
If I'm not mistaken you can already being certain things like heat sinks to a button. I think it is a good idea. Probly won't happen because console player's controllers are limited.
 
I'm using a thrustmaster hotas so i have the 3 main buttons as well. I would so love to use all 3 of them. I'm thinking of going with a 3 type layout, energy,kinetic and missile, but this is one of the things in the way. I'm not so concerned about console players not being able to do this. If you want to play on a console then you must accept the limitations of such. Besides I thought you could use other controllers than the default ones. My stick has a selector for PS3.....

Yep, did that, but not everything can be.

Why should HOTAS be nerfed because controllers don't have enough buttons? Is this a cross-platform communist e-sport?
 
While i use an Xbox gamepad on my PC, so i have no spare bindings available, I'd be up for having every module and function being bindable to something.

While it's somewhat of a faff for you to then have profiles to switch between per loadout, it's also less of a faff for FD than implementing a third firegroup, and dealing with the console and gamepad users crowd who can't use it. Lol
