4,000,000 cr Mission! Are you the commander that got what's needed?

Not sure what the +influence means on the completed mission page, I suspect it refers to an increase in your influence with said faction, and not the factions influence in the system (as this doesn't seem to change). If you look at the mission summary page and then your Status: Rep influence page you'll notice that your influence goes up with that faction (blue arrow pointing up).

I'm trying to stick with the rep/mission work, but I don't see any significant improvements have hours of missions. I think it's broken.

Don't pay up if you're already allied with that faction. You won't benefit from it any further, it's money out of the window.

There's been a thread about this a while ago, sorry can't find it right now.

I think I'll pass. Those dirty commoners should learn not to rely on the kindness of others to win. Now where is my lavian brandy...

Does it at least instantly max you out as allied?

Not that Allied would be worth the mentioned 40k, let alone this sum.

Its for the good of the galaxy, If the feds take over Kappa Fornacis no more Onion head! that will be 1 less commodity for everyone to trade

Well that's a real effect and a pretty significant one at that.

So so far one effect would be if that the feds take over a station a lot of commodities become illegal. So far that's the only effect I've heard of and it's not a good one. What's the benefit of letting the feds take over a station? Seems to be none. What would be the benefit of helping the alliance or empire take one over? There should always be give and take when choosing what factions to help expand or take over. Maybe feds would offer better outfitting or higher tech items if you're allied or high ranked with them, same for empire and alliance.

The entire system is bare bones at best. Another curiosity: I never see ships belonging to another system's factions. Do they not trade with each other? Do they never go to war with each other? (well they might but not yet). Every system seems completely self-contained.

Exactly. Once you become allied with a local faction there's no reason to do donation missions, and in many cases there's no reason to become allied at all. Why spend time becoming allied with the local mob faction who only has 7% influence in the system?

I'm not complaining, I just wish the system was a lot deeper than it is. It has major potential.

For that donation you'd think it would have a significant effect but I'm guessing it will have little to none.

And even if it did have an effect what would it be? I haven't seen the benefit of favoring one local faction over another. I haven't seen a station change ownership or anything. The whole system feels very shallow and pointless.

Got one system to civil war state, local faction 98.97% coverage of the system, and they went into Expansion stage. So, there is a benefit... in a sense - now those folks are reaching to nearby system(s).

I would like to hear what Frontier have to say...is it broken?

It has pretty much been confirmed to be broken by this well documented effort to affect change in a particular system. I suggest you read the Thread which documents the effort step by step over a number of days, and the conclusion that they have made no progress whatsoever with close to 60 players working in unison: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=84770&highlight=mikkun

FD has not responded to any of the tickets submitted about it yet, though they were on holiday.

Man I've spent the last week or so in the Kappa Fornacis system fighting off the Federal scum that have been bombing my onion farms... And the Farmer's Union keeps asking me to donate 4 million credits :( I've killed so many Feds though!

Sincerely,
Under Appreciated Imperial Pilot

But I'm wondering what the benefit of their expansion is other than to say "I helped a faction expand." I mean tangible ingame benefits. I think you get cheaper refuel and munitions from allied stations so maybe if you expand a local faction you're allied with to other systems and get them to take over stations you can benefit, but why not just get allied with the existing factions instead? It's easier.

I'm not a fan of doing it for purely roleplaying purposes. The gamer in me who loves games like Crusader Kings 2 wants more out of the system, much much more.

Well I've got myself a good sized trading boat, I'll grind some cash and see if this mission comes up again and will report in on the results. Might take a few weeks to get 4m cr for me though.
