4 gazillion stars

The number of unique star systems in the game is so large it's unfathomable, and while I love, understand and respect the vast scale and scope of simulating the entire Milky Way, I do wonder purely from a gaming perspective how much of will ever get explored.

Do we know how much of it is inhabited? How far do you have to travel to reach the edge of populated space and into the great beyond?

And once you're free of any civilisation, what is there to do out there? I guess with fuel scoops there's no restriction to where you can go, but aside from a different star type, maybe a black hole or other cool to visit celestial phenomena, is there anything other than pure exploration?

Will we perhaps be able to find and collect new, rare and unique cargo's from unexplored worlds?

THAT is what you need to explore Commander :)

I plan to head out in to the stars, turn left, and keep going...

It'll be wonderfully quiet away from the pirates ;)

you can switch filter in the map to look at the inhabited region.

it's about 200 LY from Sol in every direction. what is to be found beyond the frontier, we dont know, which is the point i would say.

About scooping fuel : yes, you can use it, but you will have to make repairs or overhaul which means you'll have to return to a station from time to time.

though we could expect at least to see some thargoids at some point, and i think i've heard Michael Brookes talk about this alien artefact found on mars about which we should know more in the future, iirc.

I would like to think that FD have their head screwed on for this, as the Thargoids exist as well as humans then Law of averages say that more intelligent life forms should exist, can you imagine being the explorer that discovers a new race of beings? the universe is a big place.

I'm pretty sure FD have already said that there are Humans and Thargoids, that's it. No other crazy life-forms will be in the game.

Not sure if this will change though, as it's blooming obvious (to non-creationalists) that there's going to be more life out there...

That, my friend, is what The First Great Expedition is going to find out.
And the fuel isn't the only limit for maximum range. The other major problem is engine and system serviecing. At some point you may find your hyperdrive malfunction if not servieced properly. That is going to be a great advanture.

It will be lots of life forms later when they introduce the expansion planetary landings and big game hunting.

it all depends how we look at life forms.
Most planets will have their own evolution and wildlife but "humans" and Thargoids is probably the only known species that have mastered to travel in space.

But who know what's hiding out there to be discovered :)

well 1billion seconds is around 32 human years? cant remember, if the earth hasn't been doomed by then, im sure you would've explored 1% (based on 1 second per star) :D space is big, very big
