Sorry for your mishap and good to hear you're back on the horse. Can only imagine one thing worse;smashing your ship into the station coming back from the black.

fly safe

I've added the incident and its location to map 12.

Cheers!

Nice gesture, Erimus :)

I did that in beta and after the full release it was one of the first things I did away with. I can't even remember the key combo I change silent running to. So who knows I might hit it through really bad luck at the wrong time. :)

I was exploring with my Conda, had to leave my computer for a bit so dropped out of supercruise and left it, came back and found my cat on the keyboard right over that special key and the ship and blown up, lost a full days worth of exploration and 7m insurance. I've unbound that key, don't use silent running anyway.

I'm looking at my joystick right now. The silent running button is right next to the frameshift drive's. Hmmmmm...
I guess window mode saves lives!

The Cobra Mk III Sunny Side Up was lost in the system CYOIDAI KD-B B33-0 (henceforth to be known as 'Sunny Side Down') when a bizarre camera malfunction lead to a catastrophic overheating while attempting to take a picture of the planetary nebula CYOIDAI GH-U E3-3

Her replacement, Silence Unbounded, has now reached the scene of the incident and there is no longer any observable wreckage.

The planetary nebula was successfully jumped to on the return trip where much fun was had flying round the small (2.6 solar masses) black hole watching the background warp with every turn (one day I'll figure out how to get the camera on this ship to record video...).

CMDR INTERFECTOR XTF has been here already and registered the details with UC but hey ho.

(there are rings around the Y dwarf, honest)

Sorry to hear of your loss....I would have gone completely bat **** if that happened. I've unbinded that command.

Glad to see you got back in the chair quick. :)

Damn...I think I'm going to unbind that myself now, although with my DBX overheating isn't TOO much of an issue before I'd realize that I did something epically stupid (of course, the audio cues for Silent Running Engaged and Shields Offline are good warnings for me too). Now if I was out here in my Type-6 and did that...*shudder*

That really sucks and I'll add it to my do not bind list along with dump all cargo and a few others.

Although I don't generally hold with remote selling of data, one of my contributions to the explorers wish list is:

"For very-long-range explorers: As a compromise on remote selling of data, perhaps your escape pod could hold just the basic disco data and your 'first discoverds' list, then at least we'd get a bit of cash and the prestige after dying far out in the black."

for just this eventuality - I'm proud to know someone who's got back on the horse after this - I'd be away until 1.6

You got the photo`s and the memories.
.
Sorry to be cold but it`s been nearly 2 months , hope your back out there and not drunk in some station bar like a quitter would be;)

Sorry to hear that, I have just bound the key to Shift+Delete and changed it from toggle to hold mode. It's unlikely I shall be using it while exploring. Your post may well have saved other CMDR's from a similar fate. Don't give up.

Course I am :)

The thread's only floated back to the top of the page because Erimus wanted to know where I bought it and I didn't want to tell him until I'd got back out and actually made it to the planetary nebula and made sure it wasn't undiscovered.

I got there last night and it was already tagged.

But I am at least immortalised in the Galactic Mapping Project.

I'll say it again Cmdr, you attitude/actions after that catastrophic episode you went through should be put in to the "Explorers Handbook" :)
