I am actually enjoying Horizons. Bugs and poor framerate aside. Running around on-foot shooting, stealing, and scavenging is actually quite fun. But...
Odyssey unlocks are a massive grind. I am just about ready to quit playing Elite because of it. The grind is far worse than Engineering in Horizons. I feel the details of which have been well discussed on the forums, so in the interest of being terse and pithy I am going to just focus on what can be done about the issue.
A lot of players are asking for Frontier to reduce the unlock requirements for Engineers, reduce the material cost of upgrades and components. This is the obvious answer, and honestly I like this one the least. The material cost is only an issue because of how rare some of these items are. So instead I suggest several ways to make these highly values components more common:

So instead I suggest several ways to make these highly values components more common:
- Provide a Material Trader for all material types. This is the solution that solved the engineer grind in Horizons, and it can be applied here. Frontier could even go so far as to just Expand Bartender's behavior to more items.
- Bartenders sell items for credits. Bartenders BUY these items for credits, so why on earth won't they sell them? After all this game desperately needs credit sinks anyway.
- Loot bodies of those killed on foot. We can loot the debris of Ships we destroy for materials, so why doesn't the same apply to playing on foot?
- Make all Material items as possible mission rewards. Perhaps this is technically already the case, but I check the mission board dozens of times a day, and I have not once seen a mission that rewards certain materials I am desperate to find.
