40 Dinosaurs at release confirmed: What do you think?

45 if you count the ones that come with the digital deluxe edition.

This is what you get with the digital deluxe edition.

Styracosaurus
Crichtonsaurus
Majungasaurus
Archaeornithomimus
Suchomimus

I fixed it. That last one is supposed to be Suchomimus not Suchominus. They made a spelling error on the Steam page. I checked to see if there was a Suchominus and found nothing.

If you're "underwhelmed" or "disappointed" by 40 species then there is something seriously wrong with you. Have you seen any of species profile videos? Are you at all aware of the extreme level of quality and detail that has gone into each one? 40 is a lot considering the level of quality.

Hey! Remember that the Pterosaurs and Sea Creatures ARE NOT DINOSAURS, so if they are, maybe there are 50 SPECIES (40 of Dinosaurs, 5 of Pterosaurs and 5 of Sea Creatures). and if they are only Dinosaurs, 40 species is a good amount,

Let's say it's 40+5 species of dinosaurs if you preorder the game. But still what if it would be possible to make hybrids (just speculations) it could verry well reach 100 species combined with lots of different hybrids. However this is just speculations but that would be great wouldn't it?

40 is a good number for the base game, 45 including the deluxe version. Its a safe bet more will also be released as dlc in the future. Either way 40 dinos in game gives me plenty to build around with large multi species enclosures.

So from the translated German Article, we know that there are going to be 40 dinosaurs on release. What do you think about it?

As for me, I'm okay with it. It's not as high as I was expecting, but it's a solid number. I think we can get a good amount of diversity in. Given that there are 25 dinosaurs in the film-canon, and we know that Chasmosaurus, Deinonychus and Struthiomimus are in game, that leaves 12 more dinosaurs that we don't know. I'm excited to find out more about them. We might even in the next 24 hours! Plus, there WILL be DLC and mods that add more species.

So, yeah. What are your opinions everyone?

I really hope they aren't holding anything back so they can sell it on as DLC. Although saying that I don't know what Frontier are like with updates having never played any of their games. Are they known for dishing out regular free updates for their games or do they sell it as DLC?

Well if you use Planet Coaster as past precedent they provided many free (and quite substantial) updates and it took 20 months before they started throwing paid DLC into the mix. They now release DLC at approximately quarterly intervals which also comes with free content. Of course we have no idea how Frontier's partnership with Universal will affect timings this time around but it's pretty likely they'll follow a similar template of providing free content alongside any DLC.

Considering that's just 40 base dino's and you can still gene-mod them .. I'm okay with that.

Not sure how I'd feel about a "10 dino pack" DLC for $20 though; should it arise that is.

I'm with you on this one. I'd definitely pay for new Dino content down the line. It's just that balance of how many dinos are worth how many dollars!
