40 Years of Hauling Food Around the Stars.. Elite's Ruby Anniversary

20th of September marks the 40th anniversary of Elite. Back in 1984 you started out flying from Lave station in a Cobra mk3.

Frode8228 suggested it would be really cool to get as many CMDRs as possible to show up at Lave station flying Cobras on the 20th to celebrate... and I reckon he's right

I'll be there at around (edited) 17:00 UTC to see if I can still get thru the slot in my Cobra Mk3. I might even take one ton of food over to Leesti, for old time's sake

You would think Frontier would have something planned. Talking of plans, I'll more than likely be there earlier. More like 17:00 UTC, but if that's too early for Americans I hope there'll be a few folks around to greet them

Darren mentioned the wireframe PJs last year. Hope that's still on the cards...

I have a Cobra stored at Lave for just such an occasion.

It'd be helpful if it wasn't at 5pm on a working day though.

Can I make a small suggestion about this?

I don't know if people remember but there was an interstellar Initiative called the 'The Sourge'. It's where the blight state was introduced into the game and Lave was one of the first systems hit. It was where all crops and the planet's abilities to grow crops where wiped out unless you hauled Agronomic Treatment to the affected system.

The treatment was hauled to Lave but it's never regained much of is Agricultural Commodities. It's Algae, Coffee and Lavian Brandy, at the moment. I don't even know if the Agronomic Treatment Mechanic still works (or if it was a manual process they ran in the back ground), but it would be nice for everyone to haul some Agronomic Treatment to Lave on the 20th of September as part of the celebrations.

Just to see if it has any effect.

Somewhere under a heap of dust in the murky end of my FCs hanger I have my Cobra mkIII it has the previous anniversary skin on but might not be up for hauling much as I think it was last equipped as a racer.

But I will endeavour to get myself and it there.

We'll definitely mention it on Lave Radio - it's a great idea!

We might see if we can host something special to mark the occasion too. At the least some way that we can get CMDRs to instance together.
it's wonderful to hear big names in Elite like yerself are on board with the idea. This 40th anniversary is too big to go by without some sort of acknowledgement

Sounds like fun. I'd love to see Lave Station full of friendly cargo hauling Cobras
(and the inevitable FdLs)
Count me and my Flyday squad in

Have you seen the rebuy on a Cobra? They'll spend more on the ammo to shoot me

But, point taken... I'll put teeth on my ship. I'm assuming if there is any Barney they will be outnumbered a bit. It might be fun to see six Cobras against one Fer de Lance. Our squadron used to take stock Sidewinders to extraction sites. We called working as a team to take down larger opponents "mammoth hunting". It's something that appeals to the prehistoric part of yer brain

Maybe

There definitely needs to be some celebration! 5pm on a Friday I'll be at work, though. But I'll fly around in a Cobra later in the evening firing off Festive Flak.

Hopefully FDev have a Lave-and-Cobra themed CG planned. 🤞

I'll be marking the occasion... and it would be rude not to bring a posse of Cobra mk3s across to Lave station. See you there, Cmdrs. twitch.tv/drewwagar

We'll be taking a look at all previous version of the game from the 1984 original, through the sequels in the 1990s and include the current version. Expect a few madcap antics along the way.

Cheers,

Drew.
That's absolutely even more wonderful-er brilliant news. It'll be great to see you there

Drew doesn't just bring his posse of Cobras and his name. He also brings his expertise in getting as many folks in the same instance as possible

...there's gonna have to be a group photo
