As per title, do they mean 400,000,000,000,000 (UK) or 400,000,000,000 (US) ?
According to German Wikipedia, it's "100 bis 300 Milliarden Sterne" - 100,000,000,000 to 300,000,000,000 stars.
As a side note, the US way of denoting large numbers is entirely bogus (just like so much of what they do with measures):
1 * 10^(1*3) = 1 Thousand
1 * 10^(2*3) = 1 Million
1 * 10^(3*3) = 1 Billion
1 * 10^(4*3) = 1 Trillion
...
Whereas the classic UK and German way is as follows:
1 * 10^(0*6 + 3) = 1 Thousand
1 * 10^(1*6 + 0) = 1 Million
1 * 10^(1*6 + 3) = 1 Milliard
1 * 10^(2*6 + 0) = 1 Billion
1 * 10^(2*6 + 3) = 1 Billiard
1 * 10^(3*6 + 0) = 1 Trillion
1 * 10^(3*6 + 3) = 1 Trilliard
...
See what we did there in good old Europe? We used the latin prefix to denote how many groups of 6 zeros you have. You US guys got it all screwed up.
