4000 hours of work per week

Approximately 100 people, currently, work on ED. An average of eight hours per person per day for 5 days a week makes 4000 hours of working per week. With this average, ED will be released at the end of the year / beginning of 2015, no ?

Its been planned for late 2014 for quite a while I believe.

However, i wouldn't want to see a rushed product just to get the game out to meet some deadline.

Looking at the design forum, there's still a lot of work to be done.

I'd also rather see a delay than something broken, the genre couldn't take an overly buggy or lackluster product at this point.

You seem to be assuming that the staff will always be working while at work in your calculation. In a typical 8 hour workday I will only perform 3 hours of work. The rest of the day will be spent looking like I am working but I am in fact on the ED forums. Just like I am now....

that's if you think they do only one thing at a time, while in reality many things are tied together and should be done in parallel.

i guess all basics is there, just they are waiting to finish main stuff and then start adjusting rest, otherwise they will have to rework many things, this approach is actually the fastest and if David said that game will released this year then it will be ;)

hahahaha :D

David said more than once during interviews that ETA is late 2014 (and I trust his good judgment), but I wouldn't mind waiting a little longer if they needed the time to release a solid game. You know what they say.. "You never get a second chance to make a good first impression" so no need to rush things.

On a side note, as soon as the full release goes green, I'll enter the "come on, planetary landing, come oooon, fps, come ooooooon, planetary landing, come oooooooooon, fps......" mode. :D

Also, just because we don't have access to beta test some parts of the gameplay, does not mean they have not been developed yet. (I hope :D )

Same here ...
not being dependant on a separate publisher (and its deadlines) is a big advantage for Frontier Developments.
They definitely should make use of this advantage if there are good reasons to do so (like major features that don´t work correctly or aren´t implemented yet)

Even if it's not flawless at release they will continue improving it. It's not like other games when a-holes like EA forces the studio to abandon their game and start on the next....

just seen an interview with DB from gamescom, where he again says they will release this year ... so i'd say yes

Honestly, I have doubts. A release yes, sure, you can do that every week. But the question is "Will it be feature complete?".

Take a look at the design proposals, I would say there is not even 5% implemented yet! Either they have everything already close to finish or they'll do a release and continue to add features after that. DB already said they'll continue to improve the game. By looking at the current state of the beta I think he said this to cover the case they won't make a 2014 release that has all features from the design proposals included. I bet this is going to happen.

all the features from the DDA? i don't think so either
but a good game that does not disappoint, with most features from the DDA, yes.

I think David Brabben already took some more leverage by saying "prolonged gamma phase" .
and made a comparison too minecraft development phases.
So it will be released on time but not as a finished product.

I have a feeling that its going to be released just before the classic Christmas rush.
what used to be a very important time for publishers.

I say : They will release the "final" Version this year, because they must (money : Chistmas sales). How this version looks? Who knows.... Sadly Frontier´s information politic is a little bit cryptic and non-transparent, so noone realy knows what is the content of the "1.0" Version.

I forsee a release this year, wich is very unfinished, unbalanced and with lots of content (DDF) missing. If the sales are ok we will get content patches after the release of course, but I cant imagine that we will play a finished Version of ED before 06/2015 tbh.

So if you plan to buy the beta : Dont buy it!

Thats a joke, right?

To release an unfinished product in time... LOL.

It does seem a little ambitious to have a full release by years end but we simply don't know whats in the pipeline. Frontier could have been beavering away on core parts of the gameplay which just haven't 't been put into a live release.

I'll certainly be impressed if the game is finished by then..

I would say we are more like 50-60% currently.

There is not THAT much features missing.

Also i think gamma is released for this 2014 year.

I dont believe that they are that much further in developement, maybe 3 or 4 weeks.

My problem is : They constantly repeat that they will release the game this year, but only have 4 month left and they is soooo much content, balancing and polishing missing... they cant release a propper version this year.

I would feel much better if they delay the release for for 4 or 5 month and finish the game before it will be release. I have played sooo many unfinished "early access" Versions in the past monthd, i cant stand this anymore.
