4000 hours of work per week

There is a good reason to hold back content as people will consume them quickly and make even more snap judgments about the game with more, but still incomplete gameplay.

At least they can reasonably say that we are still testing core functionality, so check back later when everything is released.

IMO, FD's development, testing and release plan is quite smart.

For example, they don't need to release all 25 ships for testing; they just need to release a representative few that 1) can equip all weapon types and classes and 2) fill critical gameplay roles. Furthermore, they'll likely test release passenger ships for testing later as the core mission engine and basic mission function need to be tested before testing more complex mission and NPC interactions as noted in the DDF Archive.

If you look back at the kickstarter page, there is much less there than covered by the DDF topics. I reckon that they will concentrate on getting the stuff in the kickstarter ready for launch at a the end of the year, then release further DDF stuff afterwards as free content. Big things like planets and walking around will be paid expansions, but stuff like mining may be a free update rather than in from the start.

By the way, I doubt they are only working 40 hours a week each, especially given that some of the updates have been late in the evening :)

There is no reason to hide this stuff. Of course they didnt need to release it NOW, but showing things from this imaginary build could bring frontier more sales. ...

Actually, as the experiences of the guys at KSP (Kerbal Space Program) show, there is a reason to not show stuff for the next Alpha/Beta Release too early (before the next Alpha/Beta-Version is released).

The reason is, that it wakes up desires ... that is, people will constantly nag the devs about "are we there yet?"

Squad (i.e. the KSP devs) have learned their lessons after a few Alpha releases (after the game went on Steam as pre-Release and the number of Players ... ehm Alpha-Testers ... grew by a large degree) and now only release promo material from the next Alpha version, when the next version isn´t more than 1-2 weeks away

One question to the ppl that think that is ok to release an unfinished Elite Dangerous this year :

Wich of the features from the DDF are negligible for the first release? Because every topic over there are necessary to garantue an rich gaming expirience...

i agree it s*ck that the development seems to have went low or sumthing...

DB had a lot of optimism and all the power to make it happens.

mmaybe its just the fans ( us) gettin impatient and just aggravating the whole matter .

maybe its our faults ( the fans )

thats true...

developing a game while having an audience already is something blocky
