4x7 habitat animals and 4x1 exhibit animals

Imagine! Support continues throughout 2023, but we will only get 4 animal packs. In other words: 4x7 = 28 habitat animals + 4x1 = 4 exhibit animals.
  • Habitat animals may be any terrestrial or semi-terrestrial animal (no fully-aquatics).
  • Exhibit animals may be any reptile/amphibian/insect OR bird/mammal for the standard exhibit or walkthrough exhibit.

Which 28 animals and 4 exhibit species would you like?
You can make 4 animal packs, but you can also simply provide a list of animals. Good luck!

This is about what I like and not about what I think is needed, so I'll be selfish and probably make some unpopular choices 👀

With habitat animals, I'll start with these. I'd like to make a zoo that focuses on European animals, and I'm not sorry. These are enough to make a pack so I'll go ahead and do that. Two deer because I love deer. Here we have the largest (red) and the smallest (roe).
  1. Red deer
  2. Wild boar
  3. Wisent
  4. Roe deer
  5. Brown hare
  6. Mute swan
  7. European pine marten

The following animals will make for a nice non-tropical South America pack.

  8. Maned wolf
  9. Mara
  10. Southern viscacha
  11. Rhea (or Nandu as we call them in Dutch)
  12. Spectacled bear
  13. Darwin's fox
  14. Pampas cat

We'll call this the rainforest pack.

  15. Tasmanian devil
  16. Tree kangaroo
  17. Collared peccary
  18. Armadillo species
  19. Giant anaconda
  20. Malabar giant squirrel
  21. Spider monkey species

And then there are the animals that I can't fit together into one pack, but that I want anyway.

  22. Takin
  23. Wallaby species
  24. Musk ox
  25. Nilgai
  26. Emu
  27. Sand cat
  28. Addax
Now for the exhibit animals.
  1. Butterflies. These will be multiple species that you can choose to house together. They are housed in the Walkthrough exhibit.
  2. Challitrichids. These will be three different species (golden lion tamarin, emperor tamarin, cotton-top tamarin). Walkthrough exhibit.
  3. Two-toed sloth. Housed in the Walkthrough exhibit.
  4. Cobra species. Standard exhibit.

A combination of what I selfishly want, and the animals I think we need to fill out regions/make realistic zoos -

Some packs have more exhibit animals, because I think that it is likely we'll be seeing Frontier double up o exhibit animals given the new walkthrough mechanic.

Tried to mostly go for what I think would flesh out the games roster overall and improve some underrepresented groups/regions (monkeys, birds, South America, Oceania, etc.), while also adding some community favorites. Although I admit that I snuck in a few personal favorites (like the takahe).

  1. South American Coati
  2. Red River Hog

  3. Pudu
  4. Tanuki
  5. Mute Swan
  6. Chinese Giant Salamander
  7. Andean Bear
  8. Tuatara (E)

I have basically tried to come up with four packs that would contain all of the animals from my most recent 25-species wishlist:

Rainforest Animal Pack
1. Ocellated turkey
2. Owston's civet
3. Red river hog
4. Victoria crowned pigeon
5. Kinkajou
6. Northern helmeted curassow
7. De Brazza's guenon
8. Linne's two-toed sloth (walkthrough exhibit)

1. Black rhinoceros
2. Chinese water deer
3. Indian crested porcupine
4. African spurred tortoise
5. European wildcat
6. South African springhare
7. Himalayan monal
8. Parson's chameleon (walkthrough exhibit)

Small Wonders Animal Pack (consists of smaller habitat animals)
1. Bar-headed goose
2. Giant Asian pond turtle
3. Parma wallaby
4. Eurasian red squirrel
5. Rusty-spotted cat
6. Northern talapoin monkey
7. Southern three-banded armadillo
8. Butterflies - twelve species, which I outlined in another thread (walkthrough exhibit)

Communities Animal Pack (containing animals with different social organisations)
1. Yellow-throated marten
2. Southern ground hornbill
3. Gelada
4. Malagasy giant rat
5. Great white pelican
6. Striped hyena
7. Patas monkey
8. Surinam grasshopper (exhibit)

If done correctly, I think this offers more than enough animals to leave me fully satisfied with the game's roster. Sorting them out into reasonable packs is another matter. For sanity's sake I won't be speculating on walkthrough exhibits or birds that don't fit our current mold.

Islands Animal Pack
  • Tasmanian devil
  • Matschie's tree kangaroo
  • North island brown kiwi
  • Tanuki
  • Fossa
  • Prevost's squirrel
  • American flamingo
  • Tuatara (E)
Simultaneously knocks out my current top two species (tanuki, a total bias pick; and Matschie's tree kangaroo, a more broadly sensible one), provides a solid boost to Oceania, another super unique rodent, and two birds.

Children's Zoo Animal Pack
  • Bennett's wallaby
  • Emu
  • African crested porcupine
  • Patagonian mara
  • Nigerian dwarf goat
  • Ankole-Watusi cattle
  • American black bear
  • Naked mole rat (E)
I don't know why this pack framing never crossed my mind before Pentoleaf posted it earlier in this thread. I've consistently found myself wanting to group domestics with "mundane" exotics for a pack, and this idea was right there. All of the non-domestic species here are ones I've seen in actual children's zoo sections before - realizing I could squeeze the ABB in here was pretty clutch since it's overall a bit of an outlier thematically. With this, Oceania is "complete" to a satisfactory degree.

Tropical Animal Pack
  • Red river hog
  • Golden lion tamarin
  • Common squirrel monkey
  • Mantled guereza
  • Ocelot
  • Southern tamandua
  • Brazilian tapir
  • Jackson's chameleon (E)
An unabashed South America+ pack. Three monkeys because I'm desperate. I'm actually a bit unclear on whether the guereza would technically pass as tropical, but Brookfield Zoo keeps them in their Tropic World house so I'm including them. The tapir might seem like a sore subject, but a. I really like tapirs, and b. I can't see them including another one without simultaneously fixing the other one so this is a means of forcing their hand, so to speak. Between this pack and the previously listed mara and flamingo, South/Central America is finally starting (and only just starting) to truly come into its own.

Mountain Animal Pack
  • Spectacled bear
  • Pallas's cat
  • Sichuan takin
  • Gelada
  • Rocky mountain goat
  • Short-tailed chinchilla
  • Markhor
Definitely a weird one to go out on, particularly given my noted distaste for the gelada, but I couldn't find a way to work in the Hamadryas baboon so I went with the next best thing, i suppose. Honestly, I'm not even that passionate about most of these species, but I wanted to get at least one more bear and end on an arguably wintery pack. In fact, if you ordered these packs Tropical - Islands - Children's Zoo - Mountain, I think they actually fit the established seasonal DLC theming perfectly. Three goat-types is maybe a bit much, so I'd be fine with nixing the mountain goat or markhor (takin is non-negotiable), but I also don't feel terribly strongly about most alternatives. Yellow-footed rock wallaby, alpine marmot, or Himalayan monal would all work, so if you prefer one of those, pretend I said it instead. I also don't have any immediate thoughts for an exhibit animal here, since my top three priorities fit perfectly in the first three packs.

This lineup would alleviate the majority of my issues with the roster. Oceania and South America would finally both reach a level of diversity that I'm more or less comfortable with, we get four additional monkeys and two small cats, a whopping four rodents (even though this was never an explicit concern of mine, it's funny how that worked out), and two reasonable domestics as well as enough domestic-adjacents to prop them up. My biggest regrets would probably be not finding a way to fit in the dromedary, Hamadryas baboon, and even more small cats, not knowing what to do with a sloth and more birds, getting only 2/3 of the remaining bears, and not being able to work with the maned wolf simply because I know it's popular if not to my own personal taste. Given more time, I suppose I could come up with an alternative to the Mountain pack that better addresses some of these regrets, but I think this looks great for a first pass.

Your mountain pack is missing a species, you can add one more 😁

Ideally I'd have 5 packs, with a birds pack with more birds, but going with just 4 packs and 28/4 Habitat and Exhibit animals. I also didnt just choose my top 28 habitat animals but decided to go with pack themes instead. I did make sure to get at least my own personal top 10 wants in though.

I’m going to keep to the traditional 7 habitat and 1 exhibit formula simply because we’ve got no proper basis to go off for them substituting habitat animals for the sake of them adding more exhibit species. Unfortunately, even though I’ve made every exhibit a walkthrough exhibit (which is a tragedy in and of itself - all those poor reptiles I want) the amount of flying birds I manage to squeeze in is pitiful. That said, it’s not like you can’t add birds in other ways…

Avian Animal Pack:

  3. African Crested Porcupine
  4. Hamadryas Baboon
  5. Maned Wolf
  6. Serval
  7. Blackbuck
  8. Budgerigar [WE]
EDIT: Somehow included the North American porcupine but forgot to put crested porcupine in the drylands pack. Sorry rhea.

With my own personal wishlist, it was challenging to fit in every animal I wanted, and still some like the Musk Ox, Caracal, and White-Nosed Coati were left out, as well as countless reptiles that I sacrificed for the sake of more walkthrough exhibit animals.

Drylands Animal Pack:
  • Secretary Bird
  • Gerenuk

I intentionally did 2023 only, and disregarded the winter 2022 pack 👀 that way you can can imagine it is 🦜

Well i dont like only animal packs, so im gonna mix in 2 normal ones.
Also while im not the biggest fan of the WE, i atleast aknowledge it other then the normal exhibits, which imo still are trash.
Im also gonna include 2 anniversarys, cause im gaving less animals anyways and a good idear.

Drylands Animal Pack:
  • Emu
  • Lace Monitor
  • Collared Peccary
  • Ringtail
  • Dromedary
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Striped Hyena/Corsac Fox
  • Budgies (WE)

First of i want to squeeze out a bunch of desert animals, as they are the most underrepresented biome.
We got 3 from australia, with the budgie doubling down as a comormorph hero and a stand in domestic super common zoo animal that could work very well with the WE, 2 from north america to fill up its empty south aswell as boosting sa a bit with the peccary. I chose the ringtail as we do not have an arboreal/climbing desert animal yet, aswell as being great for nocturnal, desert or small mammal houses.
Id say either the corsac fox or the striped hyena for an asian representive, with zhe main differences being the hyenas large range into africa and the corsac fox being the only one in this pack living in a cold desert and central asia being still quite underrepresented.
The only problem for the corsac fox is that theres only one hyena but 3 foxes in the game, so the hyena wins for now.
But if we get another year of support afterwards the fox would be very welcome.

First Aniversery:
American Flamingo

Its a colorful small flamingo from the new world and our first carribean animal.
It would be easy to create but have clear strong differences from the greater flamnigo in game and would be a nice alternativ.
Also bird

Petting Zoo Pack:
  • African Dwarf Goat
  • Domestic Donkey
  • Domestic Chicken
  • Scottish Highland Cattle
  • Zebra Finch (WE)
  • Farm Scenery Theme

Petting zoos are an important part of zoos and we need some more domestics.
A general purpose farm scenery theme would also be of great use for some more mundane props like hay barrels and some great wood pieces for sure.
I also added the zebra finch as one of the most common domestic bird species that doubles down as an australian species thats also an in zoos not as common taxa as a finch. Bonus points if we could mix them with zhe budgies. Also no pig as the other packs are quite pig heavy.

Rainforest Animal Pack:
  • Red River Hog
  • Mantled Guereza/De Brazas Monkey
  • South American Coati
  • Cotton Top Tamarin
  • Black Howler Monkey
  • Victorian Crowned Pidgeon
  • Tree Kangaroo
  • Common Hill Mynah (WE)

I am honest, i dont really need more tropical animals, but theres one thing i do need and need alot, monkeys.
Are 3 monkeys a bit much? Yes
Do i think 3 monkeys are realistic? No
Do i care? No
So yeah, a tropical african medium, a large south american tropical monkey that also lives in grassland and uses the chorus mechanic and my favorite tamarin thats also the most common in captivity.
To complement the 3, we got the coati and red river hog as zoo staples that bring something completly absent to their respective zones (non monkey arboreal south american animal and non bongo tropical african ungulate), with the tree kangaroo and crowned pidgeon adding to the oceania roster a total amount of 7 animals so far if we cound the 2 WE, as much as we have in the game right now.
They all would work lovely with the cassowary and dingo for new guinea themed areas or just as very cool regular tropical house members.
Lastly the common hill mymah would add an iconic song bird to asia, that also looks very different to all the other WEs. Win Win.
I chose them over the bali mynah because of their much larger ranges, an important factor for introducing a completly new type of animals so that we can cover as much ground as possible.

Mountain pack:
  • Golden Takin
  • Himalayan Monal
  • Alpine Marmot
  • Spectacle Bear
  • Butterflys (WE)
  • Nepalese and Tibetean inspired Theme

I could have easily made this a himalaya pack, but while i would love that, atleast the marmot needed to make it in + scenery packs should have extra good amimal rosters.
We got the most beautiful goat, a beautiful bird, the most beautiful bear, the most beautiful insects, a very beautiful building style and a fat rodent boy.
For butterflies i hope we get atleast 3 different ones. Also if your wondering they are here because of the himalayan flower valleys, look them up they are beautiful!
So yeah, a very beautiful pack with great animals and an hopefully drop dead beautiful building theme.

Lastly an Aniversery/Goodbye Gift:
- #FreeTheIguanas becomes reality

The Dream

So yeah thats what i would love as one year of support. Hopefully we will get even more afterwards though.

I left out alot of personal favorites, like an island or temperate animal pack (im sure most people know my opinion on those), with animals like the wild boar, red necked wallaby, kiwi, tasmanian devil and the sulawesi combo of lowland anoa and celebes crested macaque.
But what did i add?
Well we got 7 new oceanian animals, doubling the count to 14, 2 of them being WEs, 8 new South American animals, 3 of them actually being free, increasing the base game to 5 and overall to 19, 2 new european, increasing the animals to 14, 6 to africa, increasing the count to 45, 5 to north america, again 3 of them being free, with the base game going up to 8 and na overall to 23 and lastly 4 new asian animals to 45.

So we got europe and oceania tieing for last place with 14 animals, 19 for south america, 23 for north america and a tie with 45 animals for africa and asia. Ballanced as all things should be.

because of the new 5x3x2 exhibits, i hope there is more than just one exhibit animal per dlc. if only 4 total, then: any cockatoo, any owl, any parrot and any toucan.
for habitats i realy only need dromedaries, muskox and saigas and maybe sloths.
