5 Key Animals Wishlist

Well howdy, y'all. Inspired by the thread Swiftie started (I hope you don't mind that I made this one) I've been thinking about wishlists lately, and you know, a huge meta-wishlist ala @random goat and @SuzieSky just isn't realistic now. We have 4 confirmed DLC, plus a highly likely 4th anniversary gift, right?

Frontier likely has the 4th year more or less planned. So what's the point of this thread?

Well, possibly excluding the DLC we'll get in spring, there is still time for Frontier to alter the remaining packs. Like, maybe they had a certain choice of animals to bring, but if they see a wishlist like this there's a chance they alter it to suit the wants of the community, right? Or maybe they had planned a 4th anniversary animal already, but seeing a certain demand for another species they decide to choose that one...

So that's where this comes in. 5 animals only. I know it's not much, but honestly it's unlikely anybody will get all 5 choices in the game and if they do, well la-dee-dah.

Rules:
  • 5 animals ONLY. Including habitat, exhibit, and walkthrough exhibit animals
  • If you include an animal as an anniversary choice, PLEASE state which one it is
  • 1 anniversary animal per list. You can't choose 5 different anniversary gifts, ok? (Not that that's likely but still)
Tagging @ReptoMin, @Captain Callum, @Swiftie_Midnights_, @SuzieSky, @random goat. If y'all wanna help, I tagged y'all, since all of y'all have been willing to be a part of this (I will make a DM with y'all to not clutter this thread)

This is likely the final year of DLC, so this may be the very final wishlist.

Isn't it?
I'll do mine, now:

  1. American black bear - anniversary animal
  2. Indian flying fox - WE animal
  3. Black howler monkey
  4. Greater rhea
  5. Somali wild donkey
HM: gray fox. I love them, my favorite, but they just aren't needed for PZ anymore. Red fox took away their thunder

1. Perè David’s deer - my most wanted extinct in the wild deer and animal in general
2. Somali wild donkey - critically endangered equid from very unrepresented Horn of Africa. Also very beautiful.
3. Red River hog - most wanted suid and my personal favorite from zoo’s I’ve visited
4. Addax - such a beautiful desert antelope that is also critically endangered, possible anniversary animal.
5. Lion tailed macaque - very unique macaque and very different from what we already have but not shouldn’t be to hard to make - also endangered.

I know it’s a lot of hooves but this is exactly me 🤷🏽

Ooh only five hmm... Oh man this was really tough.

1. Fossa
2. Coati
3. Tasmanian devil
4. Crested porcupine
WE - Scarlet macaw
Anniversary - Dromedary camel

5 animals? I actually like this idea far better because it forces people to actually choose their own favourites rather than just googling a 25/30 list of possible animals wanted

  1. Sea Otter
  2. Brown Pelican
  3. Black and white colobus monkey
  4. Gerunuk
  5. Hyacinth Macaw (WE)

1. White Faced Saki: Most common single species of medium or larger sized South American Monkey that looks like no other monkey in the game and is sexually dimorph
2. African Dwarf Goat: Most important domestic and by far most common Zoo animal, absolute minimum for domestic representation
3. Guinea Pig: We need more small animal and they would tripple as being super small, domestics and having a strong tie to a region so far mostly also only represented by another domestic, the lame and would elevate both animals a good bit both in themed areas and for general petting zoos.
4. White Cheeked Pintail: It was hard to choose one duck, but this one is the one i feel like would do the best job of representing all ducks and has a fair chance of making it in an island pack as they live both on the galapagos islands and the carribeans. Dont know them for long, but they for sure carry my hope
5. Habitat Iguanas (Anniversary): This would be my Nr.1 request for the game. These two animals (i just grouped them together as the work that one would need could litterally be 100% useable for the other so if you do one why not both?) would add so much as habitat animals to the game. They alone would boost american, island, reptile and lizard representation by so much, there really is in my opinion no better gift frontier could give us.

Ok final wishlist let's go!

1. Black howler monkey
2. Short beaked echidna
3. Markor
4. Crocodile monitor
5. Chacoan peccary

It pained be to have no birds on this list but if I had a 6th spot in would definitley be for Crested whistling duck, black swan or Secretary bird. Aboreal lizard is more of priority for me though. I'm actually yet to go too a zoo without one.

Edit: just read through all the responses and noticed only 1 person has said Tasmanian devil. Thinking about I'd only have the devil in my top 15 so I now im exciting to see how high it'll be on this wishlist.

1: Secretary Bird
2: North American Elk
3: Tasmanian Devil
4: Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
5: King Cobra

There are plenty of other species that could have made this list like the African Crested Porcupine, Gerenuk, and Wolverine, but hey, I had to exclude some of them.

The first three were easy for me to choose but the last two would probably change every other week. Nonetheless, this week I'm feeling:

1. Tasmanian Devil - the marsupial the myth the legend
2. Short-beaked Echidna - Most widespread native mammal in Australia-New Guinea, these guys would provide a boost in representation for virtually every ecoregion on that continent while also being a delightfully weird and iconic species in their own right.
3. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo - Easily the most essential species to represent New Guinea, I'd be happy with any tree kangaroo species but my preference goes to Goodfellow's.
4. Lace Monitor - Big arboreal monitor lizard from Australia with two highly distinct colour morphs and a distribution spanning both tropical and temperate climates, it'd be such a great option for a new habitat lizard.
5. Little Penguin - One of the key missing species for building zoos in Australia or New Zealand given this is virtually the only penguin species kept there, and also highly distinct from the two penguins we already have.

All ended up being from Oceania as expected 😅 but they still remain the priority for me when it comes to building realistic local zoos.

I think my top five key animals would be (factoring their abundance in captivity, appearance, utility in various display areas and personal preferences into my list):

1. Yellow-throated marten - My most-wanted animal in the game. A brightly-coloured, active and sociable small carnivore that would add a climbing mustelid to the game and can represent taiga, temperate and tropical forests throughout East and Southeast Asia.
2. Bar-headed goose - The most commonly-kept exotic goose in European and American zoos, able to be mixed with a wide range of other Asian species and can be kept in many different enclosure types including ornamental gardens, lakes and fountains, the moats of animal exhibits and in walkthrough displays. They are also very pretty as far as geese go.
3. Grivet monkey - One of the most commonly-kept of all African monkeys, which would serve as an ideal counterpart to the capuchin monkey - a medium-sized, active and highly social primate that can be kept in zoos of many different sizes. These monkeys have also been mixed with a wide range of animals, including antelopes, warthogs and elephants.
4. Red river hog - Probably the best choice for another African rainforest species, something I think is sorely needed. They are also found in savannah environments, so could be kept in mixed enclosures as well (many animals have been mixed with red river hogs, including mandrills, great apes, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and antelopes). They are also the most visually striking of the wild pigs, in my opinion.
5. Rainbow lorikeet - Probably the best choice for a walkthrough exhibit bird, very commonly kept in captivity and one of the primary representatives of Oceania in many zoos (in my home zoo, for example, the rainbow lorikeet is one of the only Australian species on display, aside from wallabies, blue-tongued skinks, a couple of stick insects and some rainbowfish).

Still some animals I would love to see, like the ocellated turkey, Owston's civet, Eurasian red squirrel and giant Asian pond turtle, but these five would, I think, add the most to the game.
