5 Years of Arma 3

I love it, but also hate it in a way. I think it's been confirmed somewhere that ARMA4 is in the works. They'd better write a better engine this time...

A2CO with a bank of mods, plus one specific ai mod and I'll still be playing in another ten years and probably a lot longer than that.
A3 just went too mainstream and it didn't feel right from the start (imo).

A4 (if they make it) will move into MP more or less exclusively, I think.
The series, as a mil-sim, ended with A2 + the dlc's (imho).

Agree, hate/love need better engine.
I love this series but they really need to throw the current GUI in a fire and start from scratch, its the part of the game that's holding it back the most. A better GUI would make the game better for current players and make it easier for newer ones to get into the game and enjoy it. You shouldn't have to fight with the GUI like you currently do.

Other than that I kind of hope they return to a modernish setting (like now or a few decades back). Alternate history mid 90's anyone?

Judging from servers popularity I`m surprised Bohemia is even developing Arma 4 and not some RPG/Survival game, joking aside yeah they definitely should invest in to new engine technology, constantly optimizing the game to playable FPS getting under my skin.

Regarding ArmA 4, I just look forward to whatever they bring over from VBS this time

And of course the inevitable buggy mess and broken modders concepts they'll introduce (looking at you, backpacks in ArmA 2)

They're doing an RPG survivor game as well.

Arma 2 is where I spent most of my time (using British Army mods and then the BAF DLC on that Afghan map), but well done to no. 3 for reaching primary school age.

I just remembered this Tweet from Marek Spanel with a development shot from the engine that will be used for Arma 4 :)

It was great when IF came back to the family too.

Can't help but love Arma.

That was only partly IF.. ;)

Iron Front is an under-rated gem in my opinion. I'm glad you can use it as IF_Lite in ArmA 3, and it's compatible with the Faces of War mod.

Your right, it is a gem. We've been playing with it in A2 for years now. Mainly the terrains and a few assets, not really doing ww2 stuff anymore. Terrains are great, much more detailed in many areas.

Agreed - I still fire it up occasionally, although I really need to keep track of some of the mods I had (for ArmA2 as well come to think of it).

Anyway, I'm sure we all remember when ArmA2 made the news here in the UK?

Here's the PC Gamer article explaining what happened, in case there's any youngsters around who might have missed it...

The BBCs follow up article was a good bit of 'spot the difference' type fun.
