You beat me to it TJ! :eek: I was wondering why it had not been mentioned yet and was just about to start a thread. Anyways, yes Gagarin's achievement still resonates after all this time. I wonder if he were alive today, what he would think of today's space "efforts". Not happy, would spring to mind :(
 
Amazing achievement by the Soviet Union, plus one over the Americans, which was important in those days...

I mean seriously its been 50 years and we have only put a man on our own moon, that was 20 years into the project. 30 years later and we haven't got anywhere, still usng the same equipment and space vehicles (now with wifi and microwaves) but come on, we gotta be getting somewhere by now, I want to at least be alive when they put a man on mars.
