Hello Commanders!

To celebrate 2 years on Twitch I will be raising money for SpecialEffect (www.specialeffect.org.uk/) - the amazing charity that customises gaming and computer equipment to allow people with disabilities use the computers and consoles - and enjoy video games! They do it all for free and are entirely dependant on donations.

To do this I will be live streaming continuously for 24 hours, starting at 16:30 BST on Friday 27th August on www.twitch.tv/roots_rat. There will be some amazing prizes to be won while raising money, including Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS, a gaming mouse, unique paintjobs for Elite Dangerous, lots of games (including a copy of ED Odyssey) and many more!

During the live stream I will host many interviews with guests from the gaming industry, including Zac from Frontier Developments, also people from Anshar Studios and Forever Entertainment. I will also host The Mexican Runner - a Guinness Book record holder for NES games and Dan Grubb from Fantastic Books Publishing which published Elite books, as well as Marcin Borkowski - the author of the first ever Polish video game. I'll be of course playing some games and doing some other things in the meantime.

The stream will be mostly in English, with some segments in Polish. Feel free to pop in and say hello! Please also consider supporting this great cause at:

On behalf of SpecialEffect - thanks for any and all donations!

The full stream schedule and raffle prizes showcase is here:
Hope to see you there! o7

I love my Exclamation Mark decal - can you get F D to again award it to people who donate? - There are lots of new people that would love the Special Effect decal I am sure.

Nice one roots!

Thanks! Managed to raise over 700 quid last year, hoping for more this year :) SE are a truly amazing charity.

FDEV kindly provided 5 of those (paintjob + decal) and I will be making a raffle for each milestone achieved.

Last year we did it for the people that donated, but after that it was quite difficult to contact them to award the stuff in game, as not everyone followed the guidelines and provided all the required details.

This year I've decided to do it on a raffle basis, so I can get the deets directly then and there. Much easier to manage.

Now, don't be shy, add the rest of the quote. Don't rush it, take a breath, take your time.
It should have been just a simple notice under "Events" instead of the main board.
I understand wanting to gain favor with the moderators here but no. If it was truly a just charity stream there would be no linking the streamer to a moderator position and also no reference to the moderator's 2 year streaming anniversary. Again just a simple notice under "Events" from a non moderator account.

When other users do charity streams where they will be playing Elite they post them here. Volunteer moderators are no different to normal users when it comes to threads they make.

If it's to raise money for charity then it also helps raise awareness for it. SpecialEffect are also a charity that Frontier and it's community have supported for at least 7 years since the launch event, and possibly further back than that.

You should have been around last year for the previous charity stream raising money for SpecialEffect, you could have said how unworthy it was to post a link to that too.

That doesn't even make sense. Moderators are people too you know :D
By the by, the Events sub-forum is for in game events. And someone else posting a link to a person's stream, when that person uses the forum is quite frankly ridiculous.

Naw: "To celebrate 2 years on Twitch"
2 years anniversary is just the occassion. I urge you to go and check what other streamers do for their channel birthdays (hint: "subathons", "collection for my bday present" etc.). I do it entirely to raise money for SpecialEffect. I don't even benefit from the new viewers, because I normally stream exclusively in Polish. People who don't speak that language would find my live streams extremely boring I guess :D Or funny, because apparently Polish language sounds like we're arguging all the time lol

Thanks for keeping posting in here and bumping my thread though, I'm sure the lovely people at SpecialEffect will be grateful to you

Thank you for the thoughtful response. Since all members are free to self promote in the main forum area I'll be back later with my Facebook Gaming channel promotion. Some money raised on my channel goes to Amnesty International.

Elite Dangerous Forums Moderators self promoting on the Official Forums their personal Twitch channels that just happen to feature Elite Dangerous is cringe.
So someone promoting a stream on the games forum supporting a charity that provides less abled people to play gamea they love is cringe?

Ok, Thanks for your valued contribution.

And good luck @rootsrat mate.

See I'm also currying favour with a moderator...

There's a reason for the "Events" section. I find it funny that many moderators rush to another moderator's defence when that moderator is called out for posting activity that would not be allowed for more pedestrian forum members. Rules are for everyone.
