GALNET - 30 NOV 3307 - Thargoid Invasion of Nebula Systems Intensifies

Pilots’ Federation ALERT

Systems in the California, Coalsack, Pleiades and Witch Head Nebulas are under sustained assault by the Thargoids.

Vox Galactica featured this report from freelance war correspondent Ernesto Rios:

“Multiple starports have been crippled by Thargoid attacks in recent weeks, with anti-xeno squadrons struggling to protect them. Many Commanders told me that this latest wave is proving unusually difficult to repel, with a steady stream of reinforcements replacing those alien vessels destroyed in battle.”

“In normal times Aegis would coordinate the defence effort, but its operations remain suspended due to the Baumann inquiry. Today, it is clear that many of the superpowers’ leaders have more faith in Salvation after his triumph in the Cornsar system, believing that he holds the key to defeating the Thargoids.”

“Both the Imperial Navy and the Alliance’s Council of Admirals have suggested committing naval forces to support Salvation. In the Federation, Congress has debated redirecting funds that were ring-fenced for Aegis to accelerate development of the anti-xeno superweapon.”

“As yet these are merely discussions, but do illustrate the wide-reaching impact of the Cornsar incident. In the meantime, in the absence of direct support from either Aegis or Salvation, pilots are sacrificing their lives as they fight courageously to push back the Thargoid fleets.”

Us Marlinists sit right on the border with the Pleides. Can't help but be a little concerned about the Thargoid war ramping up on our doorstep.

A bit tin-foil hat but "Congress has debated redirecting funds that were ring-fenced for Aegis to accelerate development of the anti-xeno superweapon" sounds exactly like the type of outcome one would want from provoking Thargoids into an escalation. Not that I'm anti-Salvation but it sounds like they're wanting to pay them to clean up the mess they are, to an extent, responsible for.

when will we get full station destruction? Is there a plan to allow thargoid attacks to have permanent and persistent results when they succeed (loss of stations) ....or are all the triggers for driving them out going to be easily winnable by humans and they'll never win?

Thargoids are mainly attacking Nebulae settlements, where humans invaded and plundered their barnacle farms. They sometimes do attack systems in the Bubble, but targets there are rather random, acting as part of some sort of diversion or retaliatory tactics I guess, so Marlinist colonies are no more on the border than any other system.

Thargoid Incursions are mainly in Nebulae settlements however, the entire Thargoid sphere of influence has shifted significantly closer to the bubble. My FC is parked at HIP 15565 an unremarkable system with a single F class star. Here I've engaged Thargoid Interceptors within 25 ly of the bubble and uncomfortably close to the Plague World Peregrina. The war is closer than you think to everyone excluding Colonia.

Indeed. I've noticed nonhuman signal sources at about 140 lightyears from the Marlinist capital, and I imagine I'd find them a lot closer if I was searching for them.

Last time Salvation did his shiny thing, it coincided with the thargoid scale-up on their efforts. Who knows what's going to happen the next time Salvation does it...

If you poke a wild dog with a stick over and over, is it only the dog's fault if he eventually tries to bite you?

If I poop on your lawn, you are responsible for your attacks on me.
Let’s not pretend there‘s some amicable status quo that is being deviated from.

Galactic providence goes to the winner and it‘s well past time to play defense or consider the motivations of bugs.
