6 million Km invisible rings..?

I've found this curious gas giant in a system just 58Ly away from Jaques. On paper it should have absolutely massive rings spanning over 6M Km. However, when I flew to it...there were no rings. I've spend a good hour looking for them, and even got another commander involved in case it's some bug on my side. But nope. After searching everywhere around this planet we didn't find any rings. Any commanders at Jaques could go and check it out, it's very close. Maybe I miss something?

Most of these giant rings are invisible as the density is very low - you can even see on the system map, that it is transparent.

I thought about it. However, I couldn't even find them. At least if they were there I'd drop from supercruise while crossing them.
Also, that mass...

That mass over a huge area, is almost nothing... I've found a number of these and none of them were visible.
As for a supercruise drop, I'd get a heart attack believing I was pulled out by Tharguys. :)

I will investigate it more tomorrow. I must find them. There's no way these are so huge, and I can't even hit them in supercruise.

You actually found one!

I spent forever cruising around trying to fly into a seemingly invisible ring during my last ringed M class hunt with no luck at all and was starting to think it was a bug.

I'm delighted to see they're actually there :) ++Rep most definitely!

that emergency drop came out of nowhere... i didn't know the star had a ring because i don't check the system map when i'm in a black hole system.
BH systems always get the full scan treatment so there's no need to check the map ^^

after i recovered from a nice little heart attack i got back into sc to check if the ring is visible and yes it is.... you just have to get closer to the monitor to recognise the slight color difference... and by close i mean like 2 cm away from the screen :D

I love rings :) And explored quite a lot of these. From what i have seen, many of the large rings a completely invisible. I was unable to hit them no matter how i tried. The largest such ring was 32 000 000+km.
However there others that are visible and they are great targets for screenshots :)

Few examples

I've found a 2million km ring and a 3.7million km ring in 2 systems that are completely invisible and you can pass through the area without hitting anything.
And there was me looking forward to some nice backlighting.

Some rings are visible from a long way away but get hard to see up close. if you are lucky enough to view them flatside and not edge side it makes a difference, this one I found for instance.

It's hard to tell from the picture but that faint ring is 50 million kilometers in diameter, the little white dot in the center isn't a planet, it's the inner ring set, and inside that ring set is star, but once you get up close it starts to fade out, you can just pick it out here, a faint horizontal line about 1 third down from the top of the picture;

Oh yes and it did kick me out of SC when I got close enough.

This is the view i got when I first entered the system, it's currently about 450ls away.

If it hadn't been flat onto me I would never have noticed it, very lucky. Now I always check the system map for ring sizes when I am exploring, who knows what other wonders we may miss out on just because we were unlucky in viewing the system!
