60odd systems explored and no cargo racks above 2 tons??

Hello CMDRs,

I am having a fine time with things since gamma and have enjoyed doing some exploring, getting off the bottom rankings in exploring and trading, travelling the 35 LY to pick up my free eagle, getting to Sol and visiting Earth, finding all manner of interesting things to smuggle like black boxes, blueprints and other stuff but I have a fairly major gripe. I couldn't say how many stations I have visited but it has to be into three figures and I have not seen a single place selling a cargo rack above two ton size regardless of whether I was flying in a Sidewinder, Eagle, Hauler or more recently a Viper. Otherwise, overall I have had a great time over the last day playing gamma, even the two crashes I had couldn't blunt my enthusiasm.

Am I just unlucky? I would have thought I should have at least seen a 4 or possibly 8 tonner by now. Also, no frame shift drives. I haven't tried Styx as yet because the idea of flying another 100 LY only to find another 2 tonner is likely to make me cry.

Has anyone had a similar experience up to now? Can anyone shed any light on where I can get improvements to my cargo for either Hauler or Viper near to Sol please?

Yep, you're not alone in scarcity. I make it habit of checking out outfitting no matter where I dock just to see what I can find. I finally managed to score an 8-spot cargo bay for my Eagle at Cimurga (I think it was.) Of course, since it is a Class 3 mod I had to drop my shield generator, but I was so astounded to see it that I got it anyway and have been avoiding combat and collisions like the plague in my naked ship until I can find a Class 2 to replace it.

For now, having 10 tons of cargo space in my Eagle is a dream. The money is rolling in from quickie courier missions. Gonna be sad to see it go come the next wipe because who knows when I will see it again. :(

I'm betting FD will balance things out. Back in the Beta days, commodities were all kinds of screwed up for a while, but now you can find plenty of cargo to haul. Hopefully by release, the component supply chain will have worked itself out.

I guess I was lucky, got my 8t racks for my hauler in Ross 210. This was the third system I looked in.

Second system I checked had 16T racks for my Cobra and the 4T racks. Then again I'm well over 100 LY from Sol.

You know, it could also be a supply and demand thing... Eagles are fighters are not cargo ships. Finding 8T or 16T racks for larger ships might not be a problem at all, since more people would be buying them. But for Eagles, you'd have to be some kind of nut to try and turn your fighter into a mini-hauler. There just might not be that much call for that kind of thing. Be interesting to see what happens if/when I move up to a bigger ship.

Not sure if sidey or eagle can take anything bigger than 4 in any case.

It is very unlikely to be this but worth mentioning. A 2 ton cargo hold is a class 1 module. a 4 ton is a class 2. If you going into outfitting and click a class 1 slot on your ship, I think I am right in saying, it will only show you class 1 modules. I also think the last slot in the list is the smallest. So if you got in a habit of seeing what was available by clicking the last slot on the outfitting list you might never see anything bigger than a 2 ton. I'm sure it's not that but no harm in mentioning it.

Another fifteen systems visited, no luck. "Big sigh". I have changed back to a hauler and tried to upgrade the 4 ton slots but still only 2 tonners showing available.

Not sure how you can't find it, takes about 3 different ports (in same system) and I get all I need... Try do some cargo runs in between your journeys it may help refresh the data

Don't know whether I just got plain lucky, but the Founders' World had everything I needed/wanted when I last checked there yesterday!

I finally found 8T racks at a pure Industrial system. I had visited probably 15 high tech + something else economies and found nothing, but read on the forum industrial systems have a higher chance of stocking cargo racks.

I'm guessing the high tech part of the economy overrides the industrial part for stocking the outfitter. Seems kind of dumb to have to hunt high and low for what amounts to a bunch of empty space in your ship.

And there I was on the verge of starting again..found some 8 tonners at TZ Arietis after taking a random delivery mission there. Thanks for all the help and suggestions :)

it sure can :D Got an 8 and a 4 in my Eagle now for 12 ton cargo capacity... The 8-spot is a Class 3 item, though, and the Eagle only has one Class 3 slot... where the shield generator used to sit.

Yeah, so I'm zooming around with no shields until I can find one to slap in the Class 2 bay, but I seem to be pretty good at dodging both interdictions and ships coming the other way in the slot. I could ditch the weapons to lower mass and increase jump range but so far that's not been an issue. I would like to find some shields though, just for whatever, you know. ;)

I'm pretty sure ED does not have a supply and demand model. We tested it one night on team speak. I took a module to a system which had none. Sold it. It was not available for the other player to buy.

I found some class 3 (8T) on an industrial station.
In the same system, i couldn't find any on the agricultural stations. So it seems tied to the station type.
(strange though : i'd say agricultur needs a lot of transport - especially when you see all those "need food" missions !)

Further to the joy of being able to upgrade my cargo hold, I would recommend Snyder Enterprise, (TZ Arietis) as a place to do your outfitting shopping certainly at the lower end as I have just upgraded NEARLY EVERYTHING ELSE! That is to say power plant, thrusters, FSD and power coupling. Also has options to upgrade life support and scanner too along with weapons costing up to 500k-by far the best place I have spotted to get some upgrading done. Hats off to Mr Snyder, whoever he is.

Edit-it also has 9 ships for sale and big shields.

So far for my hauler I have found - two (2) 8 ton cargo holds - A 'A' power distributor - and a 'B' power plant.
Stuff is few and far between.
