65,000ly from Sol

Greetings fellow explorers.

I've just returned from my journey across the Galaxy, trying to get as far from the Sun as possible. Unfortunately, my Asp wasn't optimally configured, something I realized when approaching the edge, so I had to turn back after reaching IORADY FG-J B36-0, 65,011ly from Sol because I couldn't find a path that would take me further that was within the jump distance of my Asp (~24ly). I've had a few accidents, so you can see my cockpit window being anything but pristine :)

I saw a lot of nice sights on the trip, but I don't think I saw anything really special. I've put up an album with some images from the journey at Picasa if anyone is interested. These are a mix between screenshots taken to store important information (name, distances), pretty views, and random screenshots taken by my cat.

Currently in the process of selling all the system data. I visited just under 10,000 new systems during the trip, and while I didn't do surface scans of all systems/bodies, I did carry an advanced discovery scanner to register all the bodies. As all of you explorers know, selling data from 10k systems is not much fun. Thankfully, I have two monitors, so I sell data in Elite on one while playing Dragon Age Inquisition (a game long neglected because of E:D) on the other :)

Forgot to record the date and time of my departure, but it was quite a few weeks since I set out, and countless hours behind my flight stick before I returned. Felt weird docking again after all this time. I am not sure of the exact distance traveled either, but because of the path I had to take to get to the outer edge, the round trip was something between 150,000 and 200,000 ly in total. Don't think I'll be doing that again anytime soon.

Wow CMDR!!! Sounds like quite a trip!!!! Congrats on your journey!!! and on your return!!!!

Don't blame you if you want to take a break!!! really need it after a long exploration!!!

Awesome job!!! Do tell how much you end up making!! 10,000 systems is quite a feat!

100k+ly. Sheesh. I don't even want to keep count beyond my distance to Sol. I like the idea of going for 10k+ system scanned though.Perhaps that will be a goal of mine during this outing.

Wow you must have wandered around a lot,. I went that far and 'only' got about 4500 systems. 10 Kylie from home and looking forward to Docking and buying a python from zaonce.

Hope you didn't sell it all at one station. I am going to sell mine at places to unlock some more independent permit systems.

WELL DONE CMDR :) +1 rep

I was thinking that too ! But I am docking at my "station" and getting in my combat Python before I wonder around the stations selling my data, too dangerous to do it in an Asp :)

Although my trip out was only for a tiny fraction of the distance and stars you have encountered, I did notice that my 'muscle memory' acquired when going through the process on arrival at a star - Star scan: ADS: System map etc was totally different from that required at the station when requesting permission to land. Had to re-learn that process again until it was automatic.

Could you tell us more about it.
They say that 5ish million credits is enough to turn a minor faction allied. Using the Permits thread in Dangerous Discussions, you can see what stations to go to get various permits. Go there, sell until they go allied and offer the permit mission, move on to the next. I have 3 or 4 of them already, earned the traditional way, but there are another 3 or 4 that I fancy getting. I have never tried using pure data, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Well done Commander, and welcome to the 65K Club!

If you have any interesting data and screenshots from the relatively unexplored parts of the galaxy be sure to check out the Galactic Mapping Project thread in this forum. We're slowly building up a picture of the galaxy and interesting points of interest that future pioneers may want to visit! :) The Abyss between the far side of the Scutum-Centaurus arm and the galactic outer rim is one region that needs to be charted more, only 4 of us have crossed it to my knowledge, so any data on that will be appreciated

Thanks. I ended up making about 74 million from my trip (Although according to the statistics, my exploration value increased by 87 million). Not that much really, but I did focus on getting 'there' and back, so I didn't spend much time doing surface scans on the way. I took me several days to finish selling all those systems...

Probably because my Asp was not properly configured. This was my first real exploration trip, and I basically had too much armor and heavy components, severely limiting my jump range. This resulted in shorter jumps, so more systems on the way, ands I also had problems traversing the gap out to the outermost arm, causing me to have to go quite a detour to be able to get there. All of this resulted in much more systems than necessary visited.

Hope you didn't sell it all at one station. I am going to sell mine at places to unlock some more independent permit systems.
I sold some here and there to increase my standing among various factions. I like to explore the game for myself though, so I did not visit the permits thread to figure the optimal systems to visit.

Thanks. I'll have a look and see if I can contribute anything, but it have to wait a while, as I am going away for a little while. I didn't document too much out there though, all the images I have is already in the image gallery I linked to in the first post.

Congrats Commander +rep ;) I bet that landing pad was a welcome sight.

I've just set out on my 1st real exploration adventure & now 1000 LY from Sol.

I have a 32.7 LY jump range & I am taking the time to map everything I see that has not been discovered. I have a detailed surface scanner onboard & it's only my 2nd day out in the voyage. Unlike your epic journey, I was planning a fairly short trip to get back for the 20th May update.

Tiger Bill signing off.
