68 % pp

How concerned should I be? I have:
68 % PP after 107 weeks.
How low can I go before I run into any problems? {if i start randomly dropping from SC that can be a death call)
I only use 50% power running cool and slim.

It's the one thing I'm unsure of,
Is there anyone that can offer advice?

I don't think a damaged power plant is of much concern to an explorer, especially if your ship is already running just fine at less than 50% of capacity. Powerplants don't "fail" unless they get to 0%, in which case any further damage offers a chance for the entire ship to explode.

It's your frameshift drive that you need to be most concerned about, as the repeated frame shift failures can make travel inconveniently slow if it drops below 85%.

Power plants won't malfunction unless actually taking damage at the time (or tickeled with a malfunction weapon effect).

A standard malfunction will knock you down to 40% output for five seconds, so it may be wise to make sure your thrusters and FSD are below this and everything else on a lesser priority so you don't knock yourself out of SC during a hot scoop or something.

Once the PP reaches zero integrity it will fall to 20% output for five seconds, then stabilize at 50%. Any damage past this that would trigger a malfunction will instead cause the ship to explode. A reboot/repair can help here, but you'll still want to repair everything else as much as practical, both before and after.

Edit:
Correction...I'm pretty sure powerplants haven't been able to be damaged by heat for a very long time, so about the only way you could trigger a PP malfunction in SC, that I can think of, would be with caustic cargo or something.

Or face-planting into a planet/star, yes? That can cause pretty widespread damage to your systems.

Last time I checked, an unplanned rapid dis drop down from supercruise (faceplanting star / planet, or FSD / Thrusters going offline) will damage your power plant too. Can't remember if collisions (with planet, or NSPs) damage it too, or not. Oh, and if you drop down into a NS/WD jet, it will deal damage to it as well.

Personally, at 68% I'd go and have it repaired. Better that than risk losing two years' data.
