Well I can honestly say after another six hours of game play I feel frustrated , annoyed , excited , stupid and wanting more , notable points below

  • 1 self destruct (no oxygen no fuel )
  • opened fire by mistake - destroyed in seconds
  • preseed the wrong button - had to buy my load out again
  • and yes collected cargo and jettisoned in error
  • oh and when looking for cargo a scoop would help

Things can only get better .... Cheers

Is the default key binding for jettison cargo still awful in 1.2.7? I think thats one most of us changed pretty early on, assign the cargo eject to a key thats nowhere near any of the other ones being used on the keyboard!

Hi guys

well Im just finding my way , I've changed the key bindings on my x55 to suit

Love the game , can't wait to ditch the sidewinder :) 144k credits req lol

lol first thing i did , i wont be opening fire on a Eagle any time soon in my puddle jumper :)

cheers

nah you will once you have bigger gun's :) and btw my comment earlier was true I did that when I was learning the game in alpha , so don't feel so bad for that 6 hrs :)

ill get some game time during the week , will start to build those credits just need to decide on the best route to take,

My first 6 hours were VERY similar. 4 out of the 5 deaths i have were when i was usuing the sidewinder, learning to play, I too Jettisoned my cargo, flew into a space station, Misse fired while in a space station, and after all that, finaly got started with some Decient capital, bought exspincive cargo, (used ALL my money on this trade run.) and got interdicted on my way to a station. and had to start over,

Though, I wouldnt trade that for anything,
3 lessons i have learned in my side winder
1 NEVER blow ALL your money on one trade
2 You are subject to bullyinh in a sidewinder, (even NPCs do it)
3 Dont bother trading or exsploring in a sidewinder, (unless yo dont care about money

The first hours suck for everyone, But you learn fast, because screw ups really hurt, But thats the awesom thing about this game, It doesn't hold your hand.

I haven't. I don't even know which key it is. I like to live dangerously:)

Hopefully I can offer some constructive advice.

1 self destruct (no oxygen no fuel )
Not a lot else you can do here once you're out of fuel. Consider buying a fuel scoop? Note that if you are stuck due to module damage there's the "reboot & repair" option. In the next update (V1.3) we're getting the ability to have multiple fuel tanks, AND refuel other players with fuel drones.

opened fire by mistake - destroyed in seconds
In "settings/controls" turn off "Fire deploys weapons". You have to press an extra button, but it means you KNOW your weapons are out. Also if you use a joystick, unbind all the keyboard commands that you have on the stick. The last thing you need is an extra "mystery" fire or boost button on the keyboard that you've forgotten exists.

preseed the wrong button - had to buy my load out again
D'oh. :)

and yes collected cargo and jettisoned in error
Again in settings/controls, unbind the "jettison all cargo" button, completely. Get rid of it. If you really want to do that you can do it through your ship's right menu.

oh and when looking for cargo a scoop would help
Cargo scoop? All ships have them.

Things can only get better .... Cheers
Practice, practice, practice. :)

Good advice and thank you

cargo scoop comment( I didn't have a cargo rack as it turned out lol )

ill be be amogst the starts tonight, look for the explosions :)

I don't know if "pressed the wrong button" means you boosted inside a starport but that's a common one. The best way around that is to lower landing gear as you approach the slot. You can't boost when the landing gear is down.

Ill keep at it, worse still i find my self adding voice commands and talking to my PC ( cant be good can it ) but oh yes it is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

guys as ever thanks for the help!

Just wait until you :

1. Boost into a station wall after accidentally hitting the afterburner
2. Learn what the Red and Green lights on the docking bay are for
3. Realise that no-one pays attention to the Red and Green lights
4. Find out 'Mass Wins' in a collision. The hard way
4. Understand the value of upgraded life support just when your canopy blows out the first time leaving you 5 mins to dock
5. Accidentally become an interstellar Smuggler
6. Realise the Federation take a very dim view of Smugglers
7. Take on an assassination mission for 150K...
8. Get to see the insurance screen
9. End up in a stock Sidewinder because you didn't have enough insurance
10. Promise yourself you will play carefully and promptly hit an asteroid and die with 100K of bounties you never claimed

I could go on....all this (and more) is awaiting you in the Black.
