So my re-visiting Jen Elabog's beautiful rings has resulted in setting up a temporary base and taking a prolonged break from my travels. Those extraction sites are awesome. Here's what else I found.
--
1) I netted 28 million so far. Not bad, although I never cared about pure profits. Just to get it out of the way for those who do.
--
2) The biggest challenge when drifting wildly among wanted Pythons, Clippers and Anacondas, surprisingly, is NOT staying alive. I didn't get blown up once.
By a country mile, it's trigger discipline. It usually takes no more than one stray bullet and you HAVE TO abort. Luckily, Jen Elabog has a couple of outposts close by.
Then it's those damn rocks. They don't like me and I don't like them. Strafing for long periods in a RES is recommended by only 2 out of 10 dentists.
Not sure I'm super happy with the challenges being so far off keeping your machine away from fire.
--
3) Shield cells cloud your mind. They do. I packed a 4A kit (4 charges) and as soon as I've done that, I've been repeatedly finding myself using all of them in the first few minutes of the hunt. Then I continued for hours without them. Hm.
Chaff or even cannon ammo doesn't seem to 'work' this way. I always manage to spread it out through the entire safari evenly. Without much effort.
--
4) One who expects NPC Fer de Lance or Vultures in a RES, is a fool. Nope, not one. One who expects Dangerous or Elite opponents is, well, exactly the same.
--
5) Getting cocky and trying to pick a one-on-one fight with a Master Anaconda is futile. Sooner rather than later you'll lose sight of the enemy in a cloud of police Vipers and Eagles unloading everything they have (or haven't
) got on the poor guy. I say poor because nobody wants to go down like that and at times, I caught myself feeling sorry for them. Yes, even scum freeloading off honest miners.
--
6) The bullet holes in Clippers are bloody awesome. That, and an Anaconda going BOOOOM! after a large cannon power plant quad-shot, will NEVER get old. Never. Ever. If there's anything I'll keep coming back for, it's this.
--
7) Hostility of the pirates is weird to say the least. Some are hostile, some (of the same faction) aren't. Those are though, are NEVER the big guys. Sideys, Eagles, Adders, and that's about it. It's pretty important to keep these guys in check and only ditch them for bigger prey when they're ranked under Master. One Master Eagle you don't attend to can make you going 'wot?' to the dreaded "shields offline" message.
--
So that's that. I'll be moving on soon, but let's see those bullet holes a couple of times first.
