7 Ideas for Excellent Mining System Overhaul

1) First of all, make it rare, but sometimes possible to find asteroids with grand percentage chunks of hi value ores. It's hard enough to find the platinum and painite, let it be an exhilarating experience (sometimes) when we do.

I made a post that mysteriously disappeared about this. What we need are gems added to the game. Too much time is spent ONLY at pristine sites. We need a reason to actually "prospect" for real value. Diamonds and other gems need to be found at even rocky/icy rings. To do this we need a small amount of texture changes to some rocks so the experienced prospector could even visually tell what there would be. So we'd essentially fly around a rocky ring still prospecting but also visually being able to spot value.

2) Do away with Prospecter limpets. Instead, make available in Outfitting a Mining Scanner module. Activating it projects a holographic, vertical wedge (cross section cone) off the nose of your ship which you could carefully move across an asteroid and then get a reading. The potential for fantastic graphical effects here is readily apparent.

I agree. Wireframe sort of display should go around a roid and tell you its composition. The range should be limited to 5km so once you exit 5km the wireframe leaves and you can't retarget it. You'd have to scan it again.

3) If you don't do away with Prospecters, use the MFD between your legs in the cockpit to show a FLIR-like image from a camera in the limpet. Use a toggle button to de-couple the flight control from the ship and switch it to limpet control; then fly the limpet to the asteroid using the MFD view. Allow the limpet to be disengaged from the asteroid for further use.

The between your legs view is pretty useless and even with trackir annoying if you look down. Better to integrate everything in the HUD. Heads UP Display.

4) Make both Prospecter (if kept in game) and Collector limpets way more durable and re-usable to vastly cut down on cargo space clutter. Important for smaller cargo bay mining ships. Perhaps allow for degradation over time and make them repairable... if you, yes You, FDev, feel the need for a credit sink somewhere in the mix. We all know how you love your credit sinks. :D

One collector should be able to retrieve a spend collector to be brought back and refueled. This would would make managing the drones even more of a job and more fun mining experience managing all the drones.

1: yes, I like this idea and have been asking for something like that for a while now.

2: I disagree, I don't want a silly mini-game, at first I thought the prospectors were a waste of time but after mining with and without them, I've realised you can mine a lot more efficiently with them.

3: not something that I'd want tbh.

4: tbh again I have no issue with limpets as they are, I mine in a T7 and take 100-150 limpets per trip and it's no big deal.

5) Collector limpets should only collect targeted chunks/canisters. The pilot should have control of what the limpet collects, and not have to worry about it collecting unwanted chunks and jettisoned cargo canisters.

5: yeah, okay I think that's a good idea and it would be more involving than just sitting waiting for them to do their thing.

6) Allow Prospecter limpets (if kept in game) to be flown back to the ship (via the MFD control/view) and into the cargo scoop for re-use. (How fantastic would it be seeing your own ship in the MFD, sitting there amid the backdrop of space, it's cargo scoop open and waiting for you to fly the limpet into it. How many of you would spend long, lazy moments just flying around your ship gazing lovingly at it? C'mon, admit it.)

6: tbh I like prospector limpets as they are, one use items. Fire off, scan the asteroid and move to the next.

7) Make for the ability to set Collector limpets to Dormant Mode, so that they don't 'stick' on your six, and the pilot can then cargo scoop them back into the cargo bay for re-use.

7: as much as they can be a pain following you, sometimes it's handy especially if you have a dry run and prospect 7-8 asteroids without mining one. I think having to re-scoop them ..or use other drones to collect them would be irritating ..maybe..

8) Put a Class 4 Plasma Accelarator on each Collector limpet, so that they can divert and quickly kill off any pirates silly enough to impose upon you... oh wait, I said only 7 ideas. Okay, we'll scratch this one.

8: haha no ;)

How can anybody possibly disagree with this??? :D

9: better lights on my T7 so mining on the dark side of rings isn't quite so.. Scary

1, Drop prospect drone full stop
2, add module to scan asteroids
3, add much more ore to asteroids
4, make the class and size on refinery affect ore yield when refined
5, collector drones make them last forever but charge per min they are in use

Mining is now fix! in 5 points not 7 :)

Succinct to the point of breathtaking. I should take notes. :D

I hear you, bro. I avoid the dark side like the plague.
