Now that bounty money has been buffeed, I guess a lot more newcomers are enjoying bounty hunting, or RES farming as it's also called.
To make a lot of money, you go to a high resource extraction site, log or jump in and out until you get a spawn of big ships, then help the police kill the "wanted" ships.
Here's how to get a 40% bonus on your bounty payouts: Sign up with Zachary Hudson in the powerplay, then go to his headquarters in Nanomam with a T6 outfited to carry 100T and under power contacts, load up 100T of his fortification supplies and deliver them to the nearest of his control systems, like Groombridge 1618. That gets you to leve 2. each week thereafter, you only need to deliver 50T to keep your level 2. It takes about 10 minutes. That's it. You have to hunt the bounties in his systems, like LTT 15574, and hand them in there.
While I'm at it, you can also get about 25% extra by using a kill warrent scanner. There's a lot of misinformation about the KWS on this and other forums, and in various Youtube videos. Contrary to popular belief, there is no downside to the KWS except that it uses up a bit of extra power. A class C one is a nice compromise between range and power. All you need to do is put the KWS on trigger 2 and use firegroups for your weapons if you need to fire different weapons at different times. When you drop in to the RES, you need to hold on trigger two all the time, which makes the KWS automatic. Every time you target a ship and point at it, the KWS will scan by itself. That means it will scan while you're shooting the bad guys so no time is wasted. You can assign it to the slider on an X52 type HOTAS or assign it to the "-" key top right of the keyboard and put a weight on it to keep it active. If you open up the comms panel or change instance, you'll have to reset it.
Here's how the 25% extra is madem up. You get 10% extra from the system you're hunting in, and another 20% from other systems. When the bounties from other systems have accumulated enough to make it worthwhile, hop across to a low security system to find an interstellar factor in any station, who will cash in those bounties for a 25% (?) cut, so the 20%, works out at 15% of the total.
Now you get Bounty money x 1.25 x 1.4, which is 75% extra bounty money.
This is an old video I made, but is still more or less valid:
