7508 Hours Logged On PC. What Next?

6376 on the main account.

1132 on the alt.

With the merging of the codebases, the alt's days are numbered. It was used primarily for exploration, before fleet carriers changed that. I am not going to buy an Odyssey DLC for it. It's a sunk cost.

It's not known how many alts are out there, but I suspect the number of of alt accounts is going to diminish. They will be merged with the "main" accounts, by closure and credit transfer. Certainly, ARX purchases will diminish, with fewer accounts to spend ARX on. This week will be crucial, as we do not yet know all that Update 11 will bring, and console commanders will have decisions to make.

One path for my accounts is to clean save the main, preserving my cosmetic assets, and then taking the credits from my alt by transfer. The main account has reached endgame. An engineer-sparse, low-level playstyle will remain. One whimsy is to use just one Cobra 4... :)

is this post made with the help of mind altering drugs or some kind of self inflicted lobotomy operation gone wrong to deal with all of that exploration?

none of the conclusions and implications make any sense.

Edit for clarity:
A. Alts exist with the base game because of cost. Not some need to run the older revision of the game - which you can do regardless of owning the latest dlc.
B. the code bases aren't merging anytime soon and when they eventually do, the only downside that will be felt will be performance oriented and impact VR players mostly. It would have no impact on play styles or roles. You'd still play horizons, it just would have the new rendering pipeline
C. nobody is going to stop using their alts.
D. Alt accounts dont merge with anything. The console account migration would migrate the account to the PC platform, not merge it with an existing pc account
E. There is no end-game. . Just insanity
F. Nobody says whimsy
G. The cobra 4 will always and forever be exclusive to the cool kids who funded the game at the beginning.

Im serious: Mix up your time with the other simulators, Farming Simulator and *Truck Simulator. You end up appreciating your time in elite more. AAA open world games are working really well for me as well.

The rest of the space genre doesn't help, no matter how much you try.

For elite, the options are:

  • Watching your credit balance go up.
  • Avoid the mission boards at all costs, the time vs gain equation doesn't work, they create minimum time spend requirements, and distract you from being in space when you're spread too thin with the game.
  • Something to do with exploration also fits in, though im stuck at the moment with that as well.
  • Oh wait: You know the odyssey ground base space mission boards that white knights love to hate? Check those out. I've already seen a few things that have my hopes up for some sandbox exploration. I doubt the templates will be varied enough to actually be satisfying, but yet to prove it.
  • Resetting your save doesn't work. I've done it once and collected a bunch of free / cheap accounts. There is literally no progression in the early game anymore, its stumble into anaconda -> engineers. The feeling of small isn't small, its more poor and without behind a barrier of frustration. Its a gameplay thing now.

Before you go wiping your characters, you might wanna get your facts straight about what's actually going on. You seem to have a lot of misconceptions here, too many for me to address fully atm.

But I will say that there are no plans to force anyone to merge their "main" and "alt" accounts, no matter what platform they're on. You can have as many copies of Horizons and Odyssey as you'd like, all entirely separate from each other.

No accounts are being deleted, no one's being forced to merge or transfer, and no servers are shutting down for any platforms. Don't go wiping your save based on misinformation.

Just for all those who haven't had their caffeine yet:

Waaay too many serious humans on this forum. I'm better off as a dog. :)

Merging the codebase doesn't mean you have to buy Odyssey.
It presumably means you will use the Odyssey client to access Horizons only content (currently if you start Horizons you will load the old Horizons client)

So, if your gaming computer can run Odyssey, you are all good.

Ooooh, all too true. The new car smell of the game faded long ago.

Still, being interdicted constantly is a pain.

Yes, at 12 to 20 FPS...plus the lousy UI.
