Ships 7A or 6A for Anaconda?

I'll put it this way -- 7C has the same shields as 6A at one third the price.

With 6 A boosters: (Courtesy of Coriolis.io)

6A: 1123 Mj
7C: 1155 Mj
7A: 1309 Mj

Depending on what you're doing with the ship, that 186 Mj might not make a lick of difference. Either way, I'd take 5 million for a better shield than the 15 million one any day, unless I REALLY wanted to put a big cargo rack in there.

In which case I'd be filling the 6 class slots with cargo racks too, anyway.

I'm currently rocking a 7D shield and have been upgrading everything else around it; forking over millions for a minuscule boost doesn't seem worth it. That money could be better spent on thrusters, power plant, etc. Three racks of shield cell banks and I only used one set in five hours of res farming.

Thrusters or shields? if thrusters on a cargo build I'd say yes as the fully laden is going to be 1300 T or higher, a 6A has an optimal mass of 1440 around a 1:1 ratio, a 7A is 2160 T OM so it's getting close to 1.5:1 that'd make a noticeable difference.

Shields I tend to use a smaller shield say D grade and stack boosters, if the shield drops turn off the boosters and it'll rebuild faster, 3.5 minutes for a 6D no boosters 5 for a 7A, with 5xA0 boosters a 6D strength is 812 mJ a 7A on it's own is 595 mJ over 25% less, around 2 mil for the 6D + 5xA0 51 mil for an 7A.

I did consider a 7A Prismatic shield, but the power costs were just too high, even with the 8A powerplant. Eventually settled for the 6AP and everything (4x A0's) seems to work fine.
Utilising a 7AP on an Anaconda would be good if you don't need weapons I guess.

I wonder if anyone put a 8AP on a Type-9?

On the other hand, as Ceekay points out, if my shield does drop, it takes aeons to reset fully...

In that case, slap a class 4 generator on that thing and roll out.

4A stacked with a couple boosters is well over 500 Mj. Anything more on a trade ship seems overkill, unless you're really paranoid.

Well, I'd want half-trading, and capable of being able to defend itself against most if not all NPCs, and I do have a weapon favourite (fixed cannons)

obviously PVP is out of the question with a conda, maybe it's possible, but I'm no Han Solo

I've been using a Python in a similar way trade/BH/RES so I've based this build on that framework, the shields on this build are about 250% that of my Python and the weapons are class 4 cannon (BFG? ;)) for large ship hulls, m-cannons for small/medium ship hulls and pulse for shields.

Granted beams are better for dropping shields but even with an 8A power dist you'd be lucky to get 10 seconds all weapons firing, also the heat generated from beams will cause module damage pretty quickly (got burned a few times using beams on the Python before I went back to pulses).

Fitting turrets will make up for the Anaconda turning rates and TBH the turrets will take down ships up to Cobra size quite easily but it's worth playing around with different weapons on the various mounts, I'd suggest keeping weapon power drain below 5 MW, the 7A dist on my Python is good for 10+ seconds all weapons at 3.6 MW so an 8A should be enough for 4.3 - 4.5 MW.

I think any Anaconda build will have weapon power issues so try having the turrets on one trigger and the gimballed weapons on the other

Or a laser and cannon build

Well I just put 6A shields on my Asp and they seem to melt away like butter, so take that for whatever it's worth :-/

That's because FD decided to balance by ships inherent shield rating rather than by module, a 4A conda has better shields than a 4A cobra all due to the Conda's huge innate shield rating. (It's balanced, I think, but one of my pet peeves in this game)

OT a 6A shield will offer more than enough protection against NPCs, I usually stick a 2A SCB in the small slot too as it's -4T cargo for + >400mj extra shields.

A7 and even A6 are a waste in terms of trading in an Anaconda. You need that space for cargo surely? I have A4 on my trading Anaconda and with I think, 4 shield boosters I can hang out in CZ and play all day.. in my 'trading' Anaconda.

Depends on what you want to do with it, really. Trading ? Smallest shield possible, prismatic if you can. Combat ? Largest possible. Non-prismatic, rather have shield boosters.
