8,874 ly from sol and there’s a USS????

Ok so I’m, as the title says, 8,874ly from sol out towards the western rim and all of a sudden I’ve got a USS appear in front of me and now I’m wondering what it means???

ive checked the map and can’t see a lone outpost but I thought a USS was a good marker for being near occupied space. Note in the past 2 weeks out here I’ve come across only one single sector that’s Bremen previously explored.

any suggestions

Most likely a "survey data cache" or, possibly, an escape pod.

They show up every so often.

The data caches aren't valuable or useful and they attract pirates when you get back to the bubble.

They show up out to about 10,000Ly from civilisation, then there's nothing manmade any more. That far out it'll almost certainly be occupied escape pods.

They spawn when you're still within a certain range* of an occupied system. You say you're on the Western Rim, so I'd guess you're within range of something, Sothis/Ceos?

*not sure what the range is, but it's a good few thousand lightyears.

Don't they simply spawn anywere, just a with a different frequency ?

Sothis is only 500 LY away, but there are a few stations further away, from there up to Colonia for instance.

It flashed up that fast I’d jumped before I could explore it, I wasn’t even sure I’d seen it especially as I wasn’t expecting to see one this far out. Now I’m glued to the screen looking for another to show up and proper gutted I missed that one. Now I know they can crop up il be more alert, ty for the info.

Definitely not anywhere, it's got to be within range (quite a big range, mind) of an occupied system. As you say, could be Colonia or one of the support stations on the way there.

You should have been here in 2015 when horizons' rng was so random the most common thing found when driving on planets were canisters of tea. Everywhere in the galaxy no matter the distance from Sol. Undiscovered planet from the unmpapped edge of galaxy? Crashed ships surrounded by tea left and right.

Good times.

Yep, most likely a "Degraded Emission" and either a data cache or escape pod, sometimes both.

Large Data Caches are somewhat valuable, but they are pirate bait.

Ignore it.

Go the rest of your life with the regret of never finding out what was in it!

That's value for money from a game!!!
