9.77G Landing, SRV Stunts and Unexpected Return

I did this baby at the beginning of the Distant Worlds Expedition because it lies straight between WP1 and WP2.
I'm so happy that I survived this visit, the departure was almost an epic fail!

I have only weak D-Thrusters on my ASP and this planet gets you down completely.
With a descent rate of only 5° you can already easily achieve a speed up to 500++ m/s without boosting. :D
But landing is the minor problem. (It takes only time)

To get off this beast, I activated the Up-Thrusters and never released them.
With a ascent rate of 15° and boost boost boost I could achieve a height of 15km.
But this can't go on like this forever.

Thus I activated the FSD.
The problem is now that you have to target the Escape Vector which has a 90° angle to the planet.
Somehow I must have done a mistake, because after attaining this 90° angle I saw my ship dash backwards to the planet like a rocket!
Boost boost boost ... and fortunately the speed became slowly but surely 0.
Then I could achieve the escape speed and off I was!

Phew!

Engaging SC is from a planet is bugged. I logged a report with video after about 7km drop....fortunately I engaged at 20km after hearing other similar issues. I believe the amount of the drop increases the closer you are to the surface...maybe gravity has an effect also.
There was a video in the DW thread somewhere from someone in the surface with another commander taking off in front.....a few moments later that ship bounced off the surface with the pilot asking if someone had hit him from behind.
I don't engage SC until i get to 20km now. Jumping to another system does not seem to have the same bug.

I think the altimeter going down at the moment of SC is quite systematic, sometimes the altimeter even showed a negative value. Never lead to a crash or damage though, so while it is somewhat stressful i continue doing it since i don't want to wait minutes before being able to leave.
