Newcomer / Intro 90 minutes and zero fights

What am I to do to kill some wanted people?
I thought RES was every single asteroid field? I sat at one for 30 minutes. Not a single idiot. I was hunting in Eravate system. Then I went for the nav beacon. Same there.

So now to first question, will I have to interdict to catch wanted people?
I Was hoping it wasn't so. That's were second question comes, how the h*ll do you keep the target in line???? I failed so miserably I was wondering how everyone can say this is a good way to start earn money?
I traded 100k in my first 3 hours. Now as a bounty hunter I did 0k in 1.5 hours. I read it to be so much more fun as a bounty hunter....

Have you played the combat tutorials? there you should learn the basics. Also if you target an enemy it will automaticly scan him and tell you if hes wanted or clea. When hes wanted then fire away. If hes clean i would recommend not fireing at him or you get a bounty on your head. Or what could help is to have something in your cargo hold. Then pirates will attack you after they finished their scan ;).

There has been a reduction of wanteds at nav beacons etc. Staring at the floor for an hour is now an alternative option.

i just raised 50k in bounties in about an hour. i found a system with alot of planets....planets with rings (like saturn) are the best ones. this one had 3 sites around its ring....easy pickings

no interdiction needed as these are ships flying at normal speed. look for a federal ships and see if they are firing at anything.

I can't really confirm, but my mantaliity is look for metallic rings or metal rich (the same thing that miners look for) and there will be pirates and wanteds there to harass the miners at these lucrative sites. And yes, look for ring planets in systems with these properties above, preferably with a station attached to that planet that can both rearm and cash in your bounties :)

I was at the Eravate Nav Beacon earlier today and noticed the same thing. Nothing wanted at all. Last night I did over 100k in about an hour there so I'm not sure what happened. I do know there's a lockdown in 2 stations at Eravate and there's checkpoints set up in the system so maybe that has something to do with it. I finally moved over to Potriti system and got a few there.

In order to keep the target in the sweet spot while doing an interdiction I usually throttle back into center blue and try to interdict my target from a long ways out. If you get up really close the target moves around a lot more because of the close proximity and the short angle from being so close. It's like watching a bird fly from a distance or up in your face. They seem to move out of spot a lot less the farther away you are. Give that a try and you should improve your chances. Good luck.

Hello,

I wiped my Asp on Friday, so started again albeit with the advantage of a free Eagle for being an early backer. When bounty hunting, and looking for NPCs pirates, you need to take into account the security of the system. In the old days (premier beta), you used to be able to get the security rating (low, medium, high) from the Galaxy map. Now you have to go into the System map. I only actually found it again yesterday.

If you go into the system map the first page is the system overview page of info. If when you go in, you see info on the first star, press left+right mouse and drag down/up, this will give you the system overview. One of the stats is security. You want a nice extraction economy, wiith RES points near to a station so you can cash them in, in a low security system, I think low population helps. If you can see a faction, that is criminal with a good percentage (say 8% plus), this also helps as the pot of baddis to spawn is bigger. Post 1.1, you can cash any local bounty in at any station, which makes Bouty Hunting at RES sites a lot easier.

I made 50K per outing, on a Fed border world, each outing about 20 mins in my Eagle. There were 3 RES points in the rings, and another set of 3 45ls away.

I have made 80K from trading and 500K from Bounty Hunting, this is the complete opposite of how I started at game launch. Love my Eagle now.

As said above: the asteroid fields are not as good as the orbital rings. Some orbital rings have zones clearly named as RES ("Resource extraction site" for those that are really new ;) ). If you FSD to them, and keep flying to the nav mark in normal flight, you will enough pirates.

BTW for the kill x pirate missions, you need to kill targets that are affiliated with criminal organisations. Not just wanted ships. In your right info panel, first page, second tab, you can read the descriptions of the local factions and that information should tell you which organisations are criminals. (Something about no regard for the law)

Started a new game. Flew to Dalton, sold Freagle; kitted Sidey, jumped to Everate, stopped at NavBeacon; 5 regular kills, 1 Python (me and 2 other NPC's) - 37k bounty on the Python alone.
Previous game: Nothing for at least the first 2 hours; took forever to get anything done.

Sometimes you get a good start, sometimes you don't. Try changing systems and trolling the NavBeacons there. My tactic is to tap out a NavB, dock, resupply, pick a star then rinse and repeat. :)

To answer questions:

1. Sometimes. :p
2. With practice; I've found the mouse to be vastly more easier for winning/losing an inter; but I refuse to, I like the challenge.

So far, I'm having fun. :)

I have my best luck at Nav beacons. I like resource extraction sites because of the asteroids and just looks more fun to fly through but I hardly use them as I switch from trading exploring and bounty quite a bit.

I have noticed that sometimes when you enter a Nav beacon, everything disappears and you travel far away from the beacon. This is some kind of bug and happens at certain systems. I put in a couple tickets for this so hopefully they'll get around to fixing but this maybe why you didn't see anything for a while...

Since trading has become a series of interdictions, and exploring, then getting blown up on the door step on return has no apeal. I have taken to RES bounty hunting.
.....
It depends on what sort of instance eventually loads up. But you can get some good action there. I have created my own "game".....load up on Gattling Gun amo....head out for a kill session...when Ammo runs out, look at rewards, my best so far is 400K-ish on one amo load.........it teaches good tactics i think.....learn approaches with KW scanner without getting too close..........then, some you can just dive in an kill them guns a blazin'.....others need a bit more thought and manouvering, and the odd Anaconda that shows up needs either the help from System Authorites, or a game of Peek-a-Boo from behind a rock.....which was a lot of fun....
.....
Elite for me now is kind of like a hyper awesome version of the 80s classic "Asteroids"........ :) But no deeper than that, especially as it is now so heavily being pushed toward combat only with un-escapable interdictions................may as well find somewhere pretty and go pew pew.......

Thanks for the tip!
Update: I am now somewhat successful in my bounty hunting. But I need two more tips:
1. How to handle stronger hull ships? I have been close to taking 5 Asps, but since I take one percent of their hull with 10 hits the security arrives and I get 0 creds after 20minute struggle :( Flying an eagle btw.
2. Some are cowards and just fsd away. I try to focus on FSD bUt the hull goes down faster than the sub system..

What weapon load out are you using? Energy weapons are better against shields but poor against hull. Multi cannons are best against hull. If you are just using lasers then hulls can take a lot longer to destroy.

As for system security, I avoid them all together because they get in the way (and if you accidently hit one it will get you in trouble). I tend to hunt in Anarchy systems so it’s not an issue, however if you hunt in anarchy systems you will need a kill warrant scanner to get bounties which is another story. But if you are not in an anarchy system, I recommend turning off ‘Report Crimes against me’. You can do this in the right hand panel. This prevents security ships rushing in to ‘help you out’.

As for them running away, sometimes it can’t be avoided. You can but an FSD wake scanner which allows you to follow them but it’s not worth it in my opinion. Just move on to the next one.

Hello Dodo76,

In the Eagle I use 2 x fixed pulse and 1 x Gimbled MCG. Obviously I have had a lot of practise at aiming over the last 2 years. The tutorials really are your friends for this, as the current load out in the tutorials is a fixed beam and gimbled MCG.

As for bigger ships, I took a Python out yesterday (or was it Saturday) in an Eagle - gave me quite a buzz, as I would normally user an Adder or larger for this. My tactics for larger ships:

1) Use sub-system target selection (you may have to bind a key/buttons on the X52 as I do not think it is as standard). you can choose from the 3rd tab on the left hand UI pane. Choose the Power Plant -we are trying to kill quickly, not disarm or to slow down like a pirate would want to.
2) Clear the shields with pulse lasers.
3) The MCG will aim itself at the subsystem (better sensors gives better subsystem aiming accuracy). Focus on aiming the lasers at the subsystem. I think the Asp in an example of only hit-able from one side so make sure you try ans stay on the right side.

If your aim is true - you can kill and Asp with 30%-40% of the hull left by making the power plant explode.

In an Eagle you have a choice between a Kill Warrant Scanner (KWS) or a chaff launcher.
KWS gives you more bounty per ship if they are wanted by more than one faction - which is quite often.
Chaff will stop NPC gimbled, and in the case of larger sihps - turreted weapons from being able to lock onto you.

When I took the Python on, it did not matter how often I hit the "C" button my chaff had no affect on the Python's turret fire and I had to dodge. After the battle I remembered I had taken the KWS, so trying to launch chaf - of course failed.

Have fun.

Bounty hunting is fun. However, if you find yourself hanging around looking for someone to battle, just fill up a cargo hold with gold or other precious metal, than head over to a resource extraction sight. NPC's will scan than attack you and if you're good enough, get 2-7k when you destroy each attacker...
Gold as bait has not failed me yet!

If you go to a Resource extraction site or a nav beacon, and there is no wanted, jump out and then jump back in, this will give you a new instance and possibly more action.

But personally at nav beacons, in anarchy systems, with anything in my cargo bay, I find nothing more than more action then one ship can handle.

I take breaks from grinding away in the Anaconda by using my Cobra to explore and investigate signals, so I was at one such signal and there 4 ships milling about each of them messaged I wasn't worth it (had no cargo) so I zipped back to the station and bought some gold...next time I was dogfighting 3 eagles!
