960 gtx and DK2

Oculus DK 2 / 960 gtx- Need advice

I can possibly get a dk2 very soon, and I have a I7 4790 running at 4.0ghz, 16 gigs of
ram and a 960 gtx with 4gigs.
Would I be able to play ED on DK2 if I turned down the graphic settings?
Or should I forget the DK2 all together.

A 960 might work with DK2 if you turn down everything, sure.
If you want a clean plug and play consumer experience you should wait another 2 months or so and get
the consumer device. It will be 10 times better in every way. But the 960 will not be enough for that. And lower
settings wont save you then.

But if you have spare cash and dont mind fiddle around a little with drivers and such, DK2 can
still be a great experience. And if you like to hobby develop you own stuff, DK2 is never wrong.
Just be aware of the limitations.

So you think I should hold off and maybe just upgrade the video to a 970?

I think you should wait, yes. And if you can get a great deal on a 970 sure go for that. If not, just wait until you
know the VR headset is about to deliver. Waiting is king here, and will save you lots performance/dollar.

Hehe, and I was sooooo close to a dk2.
Ah well, guess the waiting game it is.

I guess with CV1, I would definitely need a better card(970). So I guess I will be hunting for one of those.

I know the feeling very well.

And as I said, If you have money to burn and get a good deal on a DK2 it dont have to be a bad investment.
The prices on Dk2 are going up now tho, since they are no longer made.

I was going to be able to get the dk2, leapfrog and xbox controller all for 400.
But if my 960 gtx would barely be able to run it, then what's the point.

I feel for you. I was in your exact position since June. I almost got a DK2 but I was thinking I would need to update my computer. But even with the upgrade, I would need to upgrade again once the consumer Vive/Oculus comes out. So I decided to wait.
I plan on upgrading my computer all the way by year's end so I will be able to use consumer Vive/Oculus. I'm waiting to upgrade too as I'm hoping prices will go down on the good graphics cards. I've been waiting for months. It's killing me...

Does anyone know if Cyber Monday will have graphics card/gaming computer deals?
