Yowza! That's a big bounty!

While I would love to help out Baroness I think my distance and the flimsyness of my current weaponless ship would preclude me from taking part.

All the best with your endeavour to be destroyed! ;)

The first one who kills you will get 1 million and you will lose all of the 97 million. Have I missed anything?

Yes you have.
He won't lose anything but a Sidewinder. The 97 million is the bounty placed AGAINST him, not assets he currently possesses. A single Commander can only redeem 1,000,000Cr of that 97 million. A group of Commanders, however, operating together to bring him down would each gain a 1,000.000. Although instancing would prevent it, it is theoretical that 97 commanders attacking and killing him simultaneously would each earn 1 million credits as their share of the bounty.

huh, great idea to spread the money. got 23kk bounty too since the last sepp cg where i got scanned with 432t of illicit gems and got fined 23kk.
no need to mention i never got around paying the bill for obvious reasons :)

My understanding is that if you're killed after being scanned while you have that bounty active you'll have to pay the 97M as part of your rebuy, so you need to avoid dying until the bounty expires and becomes a legacy fine.

Wow that's one heavy bounty, and I thought a 4K one was high.

I'd love to "help" out but I'm guessing I'm probably the other side of the galaxy to you as is always the norm for me when fantastic money making chances come up.

I've got that exact same bounty! :D

I'll shoot yours if you shoot mine :p

Could someone confirm the situation with a bounty? I'd happily 'gift' someone the 1MCr that they'd get for me if I could clear the 23MCr bounty on my head from helping SEPP in the games that FD are responsible for (and are therefore responsible for my bounty in the first place ;) )

It's just that everything I read suggests that I'll need to pay it back if I die anyway. I'm getting a little tired of kicking bounty hunters who whoop for joy at seeing a bounty as large as mine (fnar) when they scan me. The FDLs take some kicking but I had some idiot in a Sidewinder try it... I didn't even SEE him before the massed turrets left a cloud in my wake.

In other news, thanks to all these high level bounty hunters chasing me I am now 'Deadly' combat ranked.

My understanding of the current crime and punishment system is that if you're scanned and killed while the bounty is active (or just killed in the juristiction that issued the bounty) then you'll need to pay the bounty on the rebuy screen.

The juristiction is important, because given the size of these smuggling fines/bounties they're probably Empire or Federation wide if you tried smuggling into the wrong system.

If you survive with the bounty active for a week then it reverts to a legacy fine in the original issuing system. So you'll just need to avoid respawning in that system/station from then on.

If you commit further crimes in the same juristiction that the bounty exists in, then they add to your current bounty and the one-week timer resets.

It's a bit ridiculous that the bounty for murder is so small compared to the bounty for unpaid smuggling fines, but that's capitalism for you I guess.

It's not so bad though, after all the profit for each gem run was more than the fine anyway. So if the bounty hunters bother you just allow yourself to be killed in a sidewinder after being scanned and pay up, you're still in profit.

Perhaps a friendly pirate could visit this thread with better knowledge, I am but a small-time smuggler (who's never been successfully scanned with 30M Credits of contraband gems onboard! :D)

ps: I apologise to anyone who's suffering from this after following my advice on the SEPP Discord to just ignore the fines.

I do maintain though that it's dumb paying the fines as they revert to legacy fines eventually. So paying every fine as you get it costs you far, far more than only paying bounties/legacy fines when you die at the wrong place/time.

So I'll continue to never pay fines.
