99.99% of EVERY High Grade USS in Federation Space

are Proprietary Composites & Core Dynamics Composites no matter what state it is in - & it has been this way for months - you'd think there would be just a little bit of RNG but noooooooooooo!!!!!

what's the use even hunting for Military Supercapacitors - sigh

yes I know about material traders - but one has to have trade-able materials & the RNG is just not happening -sadly

I never hunt for specific materials in USS's. Why bother? I just gather whatever is there.
Also I always take G5 materials as payment in missions. 5 Biotech Condutors here, 5 Exquisite Focus Crystals there...
After a while you have plenty to trade for whatever you might need.

Are you making sure the faction of the HGE is in War/Civil War? if not then yeah, you'll never get Mil Caps. If it's a Fed faction as well then you just halved your odds.

For military super capacitors, the system needs to be in a state of war.
Use https://eddb.io/system in order find a system with a state of war.
Under allegiance choose independent .
Then most if not all the high grade sources should have them.

Superpower allegiance overrides the faction state as far as I know. And a secondary faction state like boom will also override any war state. This dilutes HGEs for specific faction states by a lot. Should be a random pick, but it isn't.

There is also an exploit some people use. Find and scoop up the mats in the uss. Then quit to desktop, reload the game. Go back to supercruise, re enter the uss (it will still be there, unless it's timer has run out, and scoop up the mats again. Then rinse and repeat.

How does the material trading work. I've not ventured into that yet but will need to at some point for my engineering continuation

I was humping around for mats two days ago, and it does seem to be getting less diverse. Spent a few hours in Uru and not once HGE (Guru is in outbreak).
I was in Evarate once one or two weeks ago and it wasnt in outbreak, war, etc, and I found 3 HGsources in 30 min

I’ve come to the conclusion that it is indeed “working as intended,” it’s just FDev intend that we use the new(ish) Material Traders come what may.

You call in at the one in the station Contacts that deals in the type you want, Raw, Manufactured, Data, and a grid comes up low grade stuff on the left high grade on the right. Click on the one you want to trade for and then pick the one you have you want to trade for it.

You can trade one G5 for a couple of hundred G1 but if you want G5 items then you will have to provide a number of lower grade ones. The bigger the grade difference the wider the spread on the trade, trading between G5s will not be 1/1.

OP remember random doesn't mean that every other toss of the coin will give heads if you just got tails it means after a long enough sequence of coin tosses the number of heads and tails will be close to equal there is nothing mathematically impossible in a sequence of a hundred tails in a row and if you did get that the probability for the next toss is still 50%.
